It seems the more you read people talking about this game they either love it or hate it. I fall in the middle. If you are trying to chose between the kollector's edition and the basic game save your money. The comic book that comes with the game is a quite small and almost just like a pamphlet and does not really add anything to the story. There is a small poster and a making of dvd. but you will probably be able to see all those videos on youtube before too long. And the game does not even come in a plastic case but just a cardboard sleeve.

Overall I think this a fun game. I have been playing Mortal Kombat games for a long time now and I find this one just as enjoyable. I think the mix of character is nice with some of your most popular MK characters with some of the most recognizable DC comics heroes and villains.

The gameplay has been tweaked a bit since the previous MK game, but it is nothing that you can't adjust to, and overall I think it offers more character control. The special moves or super moves as called in the game are a fun mix too with most of your favorite moves form you MK characters kept in with a mix of a few new ones to keep things interesting.

We do have a return of the preprogrammed fatalities, but they have been toned down. No more dismemberment, decapitation, or removal of vital organs. This may be a big deal for you, but I don't require a high level of gore to enjoy a video game.

As far as I can tell there are no hidden characters in the game, other then the unlockable boss characters. So don't expect to find Reptile or the Martian Manhunter. But like most Xbox 360 games the game will support downloadable content in the future. But when new fighters show up is up to the video game publisher.

So a hardcore mortal kombat fan or gamer may not enjoy this game too much as it comes up short on gore and hidden characters. But the game still presents and interesting storyline and a chance to play as some of your favorite DC comics characters. I have it I enjoy playing it and hope to have fun with friends playing as superheros and undead ninjas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best MK in ten years!, November 23, 2008

I haven't been a fan of MK since after MK II for the Arcades and Super NES. I've tried all the sequels but they just weren't for me, especially the last 4 for the PlayStation and PS2.

MK vs. DC brings this series back to it's roots and it's a lot of fun. The fatalities can be lame but they still do what they're supposed to - give you closure to a hard fought victory.

The fighting engine is a little stiff but it doesn't hinder the game play and you get used to it relatively quickly. Besides, I found it more enjoyable that Soul Calibur 4.

Bottom lins is that the game is fun. I received it today and played through the arcade mode with Scorpion and I can't wait to play through it with the other 19 characters.

I hope Midway keeps this engine and fine tunes it for future MK releases. Here's also hoping that the next one is a mature game too. I like the DC characters though and this is a nice one-off game.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC is a pretty good game, for about eight hours.
I thoroughly enjoyed the story line mode, it was the right blend between comic book and video game story telling.
However, once I completed both story modes and unlocked the two secret characters I then felt like there was nothing else to do in the game.

There are of course endings per character in the game and achievements to get, but overall I was sort of bored with the game after that.

The controls are all right and the graphics very nice. I get sort of frustrated with the fatalities being too difficult to pull off.

My biggest complaint so far is that there isn't much to the game outside of the basic head-to-head combat. I mean, I feel as though there should be different modes, maybe a tag mode. There are not enough secret characters to make me want to play more. In truth there are no challenges I'm even remotely interesting in trying to accomplish and no treats for accomplishing them. The character endings are sort of bland and sort of like bad/boring Twisted Metal endings (though Twisted Metal endings are better and funnier).

So basically, in this day that I'm paying $60 for a game, I'm not too happy with what this game delivered in the sense of content. No special game play modes, no interesting endings, not enough secret content and so on.

Here are a few things I think could have improved the game:
1. More fatalities (2 per character isn't enough for me)
2. More secret characters
3. More special play modes
4. Maybe some sort of Battle Chess mode, where you get to play chess using each side and there is a little quick animated fights as a piece is taken. (maybe you can even add a challenge piece to this where the player who would normally lose a piece can play a MK combat and the winner is the one who loses)

Anyhow, buy it used for $20, you'll be happier.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun for a comic fan or a Mortal Kombat fan!, December 14, 2008
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Mortal Kombat VS DC Universe Collector's Edition (Video Game)
Let me first say that I haven't really played a fighting game since Street Fighter 3 (On my PS1.) Let me also say that I've never really been a MK fan.

I am, however, a DC comics fan.

I figured this would be an easy game to get my comics friends to play... and I was right. Heroes or villains, there's a lovely selection. MK fans also get an equal selection of classic MK characters.

The controls are easy enough to get used to for your average gamer, so button mashing doesn't last very long. The Rage/Klose Kombat/Free Fall Kombats are lovely additions and I admit I even look forward to using some of them every round I can.

The "Story Mode" gives you a nice background as to the when and why everything is happening but it does get a bit repetitive so there's not much reason to go through it again and again. Of course the main reason of fighting games is to bash the tar out of your friends, which this game does very well. Again and again and again.

I bought the "Kollector's Edition" because it was cheaper Gold Box deal and wasn't very impressed with the "extras" DVD but it has some quick, interesting things on it. The lack of a normal game case makes switching games a bit annoying, but for the price... the extras might be worth a few extra bucks for a hardcore fan.

All in all, the kombat is excellent. The graphics are lovely. The characters/story work well together. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars would be the short/repetitive story play, which I admit (being more of an RPG fan) is what I love in a game I'm paying $40+ for.

You will get hours and hours of fun out of this, though, so it's definitely a must have!

4.0 out of 5 stars Wasn't on my radar but glad it landed in my lap., December 1, 2008
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars

I originally had no interest in this title. I am am avid FPS buff who hadn't played an enjoyable fighting game since Dead or Alive 2 on the original Xbox. So when this title popped on Amazon's Lightning deals I was a little underwhelmed. How ever I had recently watched a review for the game over at [...]. The game seemed to do a good job of merging two unique universes together. Knowing my girlfriend was a Mortal Kombat fan and I wanting to see the how the joker character played out, I ordered it as a good Thanksgiving game to play with friends.

First Impressions
This game is fun. It's not hard but it isn't impossible. The story line has you jumping from character to character so that your not forced to be one person through out the entire campaign. You gte a scope of how these two worlds merge and whhat good guys and bad guys would do. It's realy easy to pick up and play and realize 2 hours have passed. All the iconic characters have graphic novel feel. It's a nice change rather then seeing The Dark Knight version of the Joker. Though the women all seem to be missing clothing around there boobs somewhere. It was a little to much for my taste.

Violence
Violence is turned down in this game but isn't gone. Think of it as a PG-13 film or even a Dead or Alive game. Finishing moves range from super heroes tossing a player around violently to the Joker just kicking someone in the groin at the end. Sure there are more violent ones that involve neck snaps but it's nothing worse then what you'd see in a PG-13 movie. Well Maybe a little more violent, but it's pretty fun to play with teens and adults all in one room.

Special Edition
Don't buy it. I like this game but this special edition doesn't even come with a proper 360 Green transparent case. In fact the cool box that houses the game doesn't really hold the game. It's more of a box. And inside the box is a DVD sized cardboard SLEEVE (like those AOL free trail ones) that you slide the game into. It's loose in the box just shake it and you'll hear your game smacking around. I really have to suggest the normal editon of this game... otherwise your game might go missing or take 5 minutes to free from the box of doom.

Final Thoughts
If you have kids, don't worry because this game isn't very graphic. Some of the girls dress skimpy but It's treated like a Super Hero Summer flick. It's a great game that is easy to pick up and can really be a great addition to your library especially if you have multiple kids or gamers in the house. If your looking for a good story, this one is decent. All and All it's worth around 40-50 dollars.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Buy For DC Comics Fans, November 30, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mortal Kombat VS DC Universe Collector's Edition (Video Game)
This is a great game. It features some of the best characters from the DC Comics going up against classic Mortal Kombat fighters. Each character has a plethora of classic moves, such as Superman's heat vision, Batman's batarang, Wonder Woman's golden lasso, Flash's superspeed, and even Captain Marvel's lightning. It never gets old pulling off some of these classic and iconic moves.

The only have a couple of complaints, The first gripe I have is with the "finishers". Most of them are virtually impossible to pull off with a standard xbox 360 controller. The directional pad is so screwy, when you try and push right or left, it invariably ends up registering as up and breaking your finisher. The other issue is the lack of dlc for this title. When it was initially released there was a lot of talk from the developers about how the game was set up to have ongoing dlc for new characters and worlds... but it never happened. Now we are forced to ponder what could have been... maybe Robin, or Nightwing, or Cheeta, or Bizzaro as playable characters.

The collector's edition was great, with awesome Alex Ross artwork. I was disappointed that it did not include and actual case for the game... just a cardboard sleeve containing the dist. Call of Duty has done a much better job with their special editions and the steelbook cases. Seems like the developer really skimped here.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as SoulCalibur IV, March 21, 2010

I was excited about this game featuring DC Heroes & Villians and the Mortal Kombat characters. However, I found the combos a bit too complicated even at the medium level of the game (but there are "easy" and "very easy" versions of the game.) There are 2 unlockable characters in story mode. Darkseid and Shao Khan. My opinion is that if you haven't played SoulCalibur IV, it is a better fighting game than this one. I thought this game was okay for kids, you can turn the "blood" off.

This game is great. Packaging sucked, but the game is fun as hell. Keep it coming, Midway/Warner. I'll buy MK9 if it's half as good (not really).
