Was this a joke?..., January 23, 2009
This review is from: Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Paperback)
I was hoping this book wasn't as bad as "everyone" said but, unfortunately... it was. It looks like all they did was take some screen shots, some coloful pictures, some moves and threw them in a book. The author must have a contract for a certain number of books because there is NO WAY this book should have EVER made it out of editing. The main thing I was looking for was a simple manual on how to do the moves. This book has them but they are done in a way that makes no sense. This book is not user friendly at all. Too many of the pictures are dark which makes is very hard to read especially when you're playing. This isn't a text book! I want to be able to look at a page, get the information I need, and try the move while I have the game on. I don't want to study this book, take notes, write a report, and then try stuff out.
I did some more searching online (what I should have done before I got this book) and there is an iPhone application that is ok and there is also a sweet text file that I got off the internet that has EXACTLY what I was looking for... and guess what? IT'S FREE!!!! E-mail me and I'll send it to you, that will be my way of giving back all that was taken from me (LOL!!) I don't know what Prima was thinking with this book but they bombed... bad. The only thing they got right were the pictures of Catwoman. :-)

This guide is no help at all., February 11, 2009
This review is from: Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Paperback)
I was very disappointed with this strategy guide. I bought it because I am not very good at fighting games, and I wanted to be able to perform all of the characters fatality/brutality finishing moves. This guide did very little to explain how to perform these moves correctly. I found more help on the internet for free than I found in this guide. I finally ended up buying a much less expensive copy of Gamepro magazine that was much, MUCH more helpful than this guide. The bulk of this guide is made up of unhelpful (and mostly unnecessary) bios of the characters, and very few helpful tips on how to actually master the game. I would say save your money and pass on this strategy guide.

Not worth the money., January 5, 2010
This review is from: Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Paperback)
I'm grateful to my friend, who loaned me this guide. I would have greatly regretted spending the money for it. It is helpful on some of the more basic-level combos, but once you get into the advance combos, the guide becomes complicated; and once you get to the fatalities and heroic brutalities, the guide is actually useless. A couple didn't work, and most of the others were displayed wrong in the guide; i.e., the buttons were given for the wrong fatalities. Similarly, the pictures--not helpful at all--are often out of order. After flipping through this guide, one has the feeling that it was a copy-and-paste job, put together by someone who HEARD about the game, not someone who actually PLAYED it.
The problem, of course, is that "Mortal Kombat" is a game that necessitates some form of guide; it's almost impossible to remember all the moves. So, if you can find this guide for a ridiculously low price (say, $5 or less), grab it. Otherwise, I'm sure you can find the info here online for free. If you are in any doubt of how horrible this guide is: in the hundreds of reviews I have written for Amazon.com, this is the first time I've only given 1 star. That should say quite a lot.
