Book Description

Rookie patrol officer Trish Robinson isn't expecting to see any action during another routine night on the job. But when she and her training officer answer a prowler call at a remote estate, the two cops walk into an ambush laid by a crew of ruthless criminals. Disarmed, cut off from help, and outnumbered five to one, the young rookie must draw on inner resources she never knew she possessed as she plays a game of cat-and-mouse with hardened killers in a desperate battle to survive. This book is a reissue of a title by New York Times bestselling suspense novelist Michael Prescott, here writing under the pen name Brian Harper.

4.0 out of 5 stars Read It!!! You'll be glad you did!! February 8, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am a die hard Michael Prescott fan & he didn't let me down!! I tend to be a slow reader... but I finished this book in two nights!! I just couldn't put it down!! I literally gasped more than once as this story played out. Trish was a very likable (and MacGyver-esque) heroine!! The story plays out in only a matter of hours with LOTS of twists & turns which gives it somewhat of a "24" feel!! You really start to wonder what else could possibly happen!! It could very easily be a one dimentional story of cat & mouse... but the characters are interesting, easy to love/hate, and the subtle back story develops slowly to a shocking revelation!!! You should be prepared for some strong language and graphic descriptions, but it's worth the read!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Suspenseful May 8, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Trisha, a rookie cop is having a really bad day. It started when her toilet overflowed and she was late for roll call. It only went downhill from there. Her partner and her walk into an ambush which leaves her alone, unarmed and the only one standing between a ruthless team of killers and a young girl and her family.

This book was super fast paced. Lots of action packed suspense. This book comes in fast and doesn't slow down until the very end. I really enjoyed this book. You really start to think that this is it, game over. Just kidding. It keeps going.

I was so happy I decided to get this. I would recommend it to anyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Non stop action.... March 26, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Mortal Pursuit is a book for those who like nonstop action starting on page one. This thriller has twists and turns unusual in many thrillers. There are no "quiet" times. The bad guys are so stupid that they are almost comical. I have things to do but I can't stop reading until I finish the book. At 99 cents, this is really a bargain.

More About the Author

Born in 1960, I grew up in New Jersey and attended Wesleyan University, then moved to Los Angeles, where I wrote scripts for several independent producers. I also worked as a magazine freelancer and archival researcher, and eventually authored six suspense novels under the pseudonym Brian Harper before switching to my new identity as Michael Prescott.

My first Michael Prescott novel, COMES THE DARK, grew out of my interest in ancient religion and mythology. I followed up with STEALING FACES, which first appeared as an electronic book (a novelty back in 1999), and THE SHADOW HUNTER, which was praised by Publishers Weekly for its "brilliant elements of psychological horror." Publishers Weekly also had kind words for LAST BREATH ("a chilling, character-driven tale") and NEXT VICTIM ("unrelentingly suspenseful"). IN DARK PLACES was called a "dark, compulsive read" (Publishers Weekly), a "gripping new drama" (Cemetary Dance), and "hard to predict and thoroughly absorbing ... Michael Prescott at his best" (Round Table Reviews). With DANGEROUS GAMES, I began a trilogy featuring FBI agent Tess McCallum and freelance security consultant Abby Sinclair, who appeared separately in two of my earlier books. The trilogy continued with MORTAL FAULTS and FINAL SINS.

Changes in the publishing industry made it hard for me to get a print deal after FINAL SINS. Ebooks, however, are more than taking up the slack. In 2010, I self-published RIPTIDE as an ebook and a print-on-demand paperback. This was followed by new ebook editions of most of my backlist titles. Sales far exceeded my expectations, and by the spring of 2013 I had sold more than 1.25 million ebooks, hitting the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists.

Thomas & Mercer published a new novel, GRAVE OF ANGELS, in August of 2012, and reissued THE SHADOW HUNTER in September. Most recently, I self-published a new thriller, COLD AROUND THE HEART, in April of 2013.

Please note that there are a couple of other Michael Prescotts out there. One of them has put out a short story collection called "Pitch Black." Another, who goes by the name of Michael J. Prescott, has published various short novels, many with erotic themes - for instance, "Going Down," the saga of a nymphomaniac elevator operator. For the record, neither of these writers is me. If I ever do write a book about a nymphomaniac elevator operator, I'll be sure to announce it here.
