5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most disturbing metal releases, ever.
I don't know where to begin with this cd. It is pretty hard to impress me these days, but Incantation does. The guitars have a very distinctive, hopelessly detuned evilness to them. They actually sound...rancid. Like a big slab of rotting flesh suffocating you. I like how they don't use the standard scooped out death metal guitar tone like Cannibal Corpse. The drumming,...

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most disturbing metal releases, ever., April 16, 2001
This review is from: Mortal Throne of Nazarene (Audio CD)
I don't know where to begin with this cd. It is pretty hard to impress me these days, but Incantation does. The guitars have a very distinctive, hopelessly detuned evilness to them. They actually sound...rancid. Like a big slab of rotting flesh suffocating you. I like how they don't use the standard scooped out death metal guitar tone like Cannibal Corpse. The drumming, while not the best I've heard, is solid. Feels like a good, stiff beating administered with a crowbar. Probably the most noticeable thing about this album are the vocals. Straight from hell, they are. Sound a lot like Mortician, except Incantation sings more intelligent lyrics. Incantation also have a knack for mixing the blast beats up with slow minor passages, giving the album a savage doom feel. Well, that's all folks. Forget Deicide, get into Incantation. They are the real deal.

This is one of the best and most darkest of death metal cd's that I own in my collection. This album has it all=speed, heaviness, rawness and well constructed song structures. The album has a very dark atmosphere because of the detuned sound of the guitars and craig pillards low gutteral vocals. It surprises me that this piece of work has not gotten more reviews from people.I would recommend this album to any fan of the genre.PEACE OUT!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Top 5 Deathmetal release of all time., September 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mortal Throne of Nazarene (Audio CD)
All right people what we have hear is one of the best ever Deathmetal releases of all time. It is tremendously heavy, fast, slow, and well constructed. and what can i say about Craig Pillard, the man has the best voice in this genre of all time. very fluent, articulate and deep as the lower bowels of hell. If you were to buy one deathmetal album ever this should be it. Incantation will school you in the fine art of downtuning, heavyness, speed and lyricism. Hailing from New York this act is for real, they have gone through line-up changesd and label changes but still managed to produce one of the best releases of all time within a rather bland genre of music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Destroys wussy metal, July 31, 2007

I'm talking about you Trivium, Chimaira, and all your butt buddies in the metalcore industry. Incantation, for all who know who they are, is probably the most blasphemous and evil death metal group since early Deicide. Just listen to the riffs, these guys hate you, and probably would kill you if given the chance. No cheesy Gothencore garbage riffs, no retarded JUmpDAF***uP!1!! breakdowns, no emo lyrics, and no weak music! Just 100% pure un-adulterated death metal. And of course, Craig Pillard's vocals own just about every death vocalist (except early Frank Mullen).

Absolutely required.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another death metal classic!!, May 14, 2005
This review is from: Mortal Throne of Nazarene (Audio CD)
A great album, yet I still have a few gripes about it...

First with the pluses. This album is heavier and faster than Onward To Golgotha. The evilness of their fast/slow attack is still intact, the vocals are still brutally inhuman, and some of Incantation's best songs are on this album, such as "Emaciated Holy Figure", "Nocturnal Dominion", "Blissful Bloodshower", and the epic "Abolishment Of Immaculate Serenity" are all found here.

Now with the minuses. The production sounds evil, yet really muddy at some parts. The drums (the kick drums in particular) are also kind of buried in the mix throughout the whole album, and the drumming itself is rather bland. They would've done better with someone who wasn't a sessions musician in my opinion, maybe they would've put a little more effort into it.

Either way, this is still a good death metal album for those of you who like their metal brutal and blasphemous.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can you say low, LOW vocals?, February 5, 2008

This review is from: Mortal Throne of Nazarene (Audio CD)
I've been a Death Metal fan since I got into Cannibal Corpse back in 1991. Incantation was a band that I never really got the chance to get into, for whatever reason. I decided to buy this one. I must say, it is good. I love it, because I was looking for dark stuff, and this definitely fits the bill. My one tiny complaint is that the vocals could have been better mixed. As it stands, even while reading the lyrics and standing real close to the speakers I can't quite decipher the words. Again, not a big issue - I love Craig's vocals precisely because they are quite possibly THE deepest, lowest ever. But, I would've bumped them up higher in the mix, and/or tweaked some EQ to make them stand out more. Other than that, like other reviewers have said, this album is as Death Metal as it gets. Old School, baby!

4.0 out of 5 stars good release, October 26, 2008
This review is from: Mortal Throne of Nazarene (Audio CD)
here we go, Incantation...whats there to say? A very original band, John McEntee seems to have a vision of some sort...a sound, a place he goes with his music..some might call it hell, or just realy down low death metal. The printed lyrics helps alot on this record, cause damn the vocals are low...like hellaciously low. i recommend listening to this album while layin in bed at night...cause you wont sleep...its a trip..support death metal, buy it!

1.0 out of 5 stars A bunch of demon possesed losers, October 22, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Mortal Throne of Nazarene (Audio CD)
The music is just a bunch of scary sounding chords with a guy making annoying sounds. Wheres the music. it is very depressing and kinda scary. They sound like a bunch of demon possesed losers. Maybe if you were doing a movie or other dramatic performance it would sound okay to set a mood for background music, but not for easy listening. if you are looking for something fun to listen to this is not fun
