This book, titled basic training is a definite plus for any new mortgage loan officer. It contains all of the basics necessary to start in the Mortgage industry and some advanced materials. The format was easy to understand and flows in a smooth manner from start to finish building skills to the last chapter where you learn job/interview technique. I have been in real estate and lending for over 15 years and find this courswork to be one of the better programs out there. We use the materials for all new hire training and to re-train experienced lenders in our office that have learned lending using the sink or swim method. So far our trainee's have benefited from the material offered. The author does a nice job building a loan officer from the ground up. Early in the course the material provides basics and slowly builds to more intricate concepts. At over 400 pages I think the author did an excellent job of providing training applicable all over the country without dwelling on one state specific or lender specific program. I feel that the value is definitely there! Even 1 less draw payment to a new hire pays for all the office training we need for all LO's. This makes everyone involved happy. The last real bonus I find with this material is the pull out process. The special burstable binding makes using the exercises and sample forms easy during training - although each LO trained with the material so far has kept their course as a reference. I would recommend this as a great starter course before OR after entering the Mortgage Industry.

I chose brokering for my career path and the broker I work with is great in alot of ways. They didn't offer any start up training but were willing to give me a shot (despite no mortgage background). I bought three different "basic" programs to try to bring my knowledge base up to par. This was by far the best. (Only one I bothered to keep when I was done training) It took me through the basics into most of the more intricate info I need on a daily basis. I have applied everything I learned in the material and really liked the way they build the training chapter by chapter. It made it easy for a newby to get a grip on the huge quantity of information you have to have to operate. Unlike the last guy, I like the pull apart process. I pulled the items like credit reports and scoring keys and lending math tests during training so that I could do them two and three times without having to flip back and forth between the pages. Also pulled the quick sheet reference guides and hung them right on my wall. I actually kept my material as well. I like to be able to refer back when I'm feeling unsure or overwhelmed. I re-bound it and am pleased with the whole deal. I bought before the discount specials offered so I paid about twice what I'm seeing now but think it was worth every dime. The training content deserves 10 stars in my opinion.

The book itself is good, but the quality is terrible. The binding is cheaply made! My book fell apart on the 3rd day!!! I can't believe I paid well over $100 bucks for this!I was tempted to send it back, but I don't have the time for this fuss.
