5.0 out of 5 stars Always a hit with my kindergartners!

3.0 out of 5 stars A book review by a 9 year old girl.
This book isn't the type of book where the beginning ties you into the story, but I CAN assure you that by the fourth page (last paragraph) you'll be chanting along with the toon of the song! (I was!) Well, I have my teacher to thank and you're probably wondering why right? Good question! I'm thanking her because she's the one who read it out loud to my whole...

This review is from: Mortimer (Classic Munsch) (Paperback)
"MORTIMER" combines a familiar and hilarious story with a repetitive format that always appeals to my kindergarten students. Each year, I read "MORTIMER" to my class. We follow up with choral reading and creative dramatics. Students are selected to portray Mortimer, Mom, Dad and the two police officers. Other classmates double as the seventeen brothers & sisters, and the audience. Everyone 'thumps' up & down the stairs and sings the refrain. My students read and reread this beloved book. Thanks to Robert Munsch and Mortimer, I am able to foster a lifelong love of literature. "MORTIMER" is a staple in our classroom library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dramatize with your student musicians, January 26, 2004

What kid wouldn't love this book? In my music classroom, half of the kids play the stair climbing sound effects on the xylophones, while the others take on the roles of Mortimer, Mortimer's father, mother, brothers and sisters, and police. Lots of fun and I'll guarantee they'll understand the concepts of upward and downward melodic direction when you're done! Plan to laugh a lot!

5.0 out of 5 stars Music education, January 9, 2003

This review is from: Mortimer (Annikins) (Paperback)
This book is great for helping music educators teach direction of pitch. I love to use it with a tone bell ladder or other instrument that actually shows the high and low pitches. The children LOVE to play up and down the ladder as Mortimer travels up and down the stairs. There are many giggles as we play. The children can certainly relate to the story!

(I was!) Well, I have my teacher to thank and you're probably wondering why right? Good question! I'm thanking her because she's the one who read it out loud to my whole class of 44 kids and I loved it. Just remember, Mortimer is a small, but strong, "Entertainer."

A Kid's Review
Mortimer is about a boy that is not going to stop singing. It the like songs in this book. It is funny and a good book. My favorite part is when the brothers and sisters and the mom and dad have a fight.

Robert Munsch books are so much fun! This was one of my son's favorites in preschool. It was always a lively, enthusiastic read. We recently bought it for my niece's 3-year-old daughter, who is becoming a Munsch fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for young readers, June 21, 2007
This review is from: Mortimer (Classic Munsch) (Paperback)
My daughter's school librarian read this book to the first grade on the last day of school. My daughter immediately wanted to buy it. She loved the repetitive tune, the humor and the pictures. That is what makes Munsch books great in a nutshell: they make kids WANT to read.

We have used other Munsch books this year for book reports. Inevitably those are the easiest weeks to get the book read. The children want to see how the story ends.

If you have an emergent reader, this is a great book to start a lifetime of loving books.

My son loves this book. We first heard it at storytime and my son sang the catchy tune that is in the book for weeks after.

I teach preschool and have both preschool and Kindergarten boys. This book is so fun to read aloud in circle time or at home before bed. All the kids love to sing-a-long to Mortimer's "Clang, clang, rattle bing bang" song. I recommend it highly!!
