Good product, but not worth purchasing it online in my opinion, as the shipping costs is just about the same as the product. Therefore, simply find a source to purchase something such as this locally in your own area.

I was looking for a flake salt. This product has tiny flakes not much larger than ground salt. If you're looking for giant flakes as I was, look elsewhere.
By the way, the same product sold at a local supermarket (so. cal.) for $3.99. This is the first time I'm flustered by an Amazon unrealistic pricing.

Didn't have time to shop around and found the same thing for 1/4th the price. Ouch. Oh well. Good service and fast shipping. Thank you.

The preferred salt for kitchen and table,
This review is from: Morton coarse kosher salt 3 lb (Misc.)
Except for baking, Morton Coarse Kosher Salt is what I use in the kitchen and at the table. I prefer pure, plain salt to the somewhat muddled flavor of sea salt. Table salt is much finer so it is harder to pinch and distribute evenly on a finished dish. This coarse, flaked salt is also necessary for topping pretzels and margaritas and making pickles. It is also especially nice topping whole grain loaves and on meat, poultry or baked potatoes. If you have a French recipe calling for "gros sel" something of this nature is what is intended. A nice gift that is easy to make using this salt is pickled lemons, which are very useful in Mediterranean dishes. Note that this salt is less dense than regular table salt. The label indicates to add 1 tablespoon per quarter cup if the recipe calls for table salt.

problems with morton kosher salt and amazon's listing:,
By
This review is from: Morton coarse kosher salt 3 lb (Misc.)
problem #1:
the price. $11.75 is ridiculous when it's $4 in most grocery stores (look for it in the spice aisle, on the bottom shelf)... it's SALT for cryin' out loud. good thing it qualifies for free shipping with a $25 purchase! problem #2: the description is wrong. yes, it's a "pack" "of three pounds" but that's it. the next two items contradict themselves... and the first one is wrong. it does NOT contain iodine. kosher salt, by definition, cannot contain iodine. the anti-caking agent is yellow prussiate of soda. so, the third statement is OBVIOUSLY wrong, because it DOES contain an additive. jeez. "Pack contains of 3 pounds Table salt mixed with iodine to prevent goiter and anti-caking agent Contains no additives" problem #3: it contains an additive. it's NOT pure salt. so, it's no good for pickling (it can turn the pickles mushy) or making preserved lemons, which i love. i was looking for kosher salt and couldn't remember the name of the one i like so well (and which is hard to find in my area) so i just did a search for "kosher salt". when this popped up, i was quite surprise to see the price, so i looked at the product and was amazed... and not in a good way. i have used this product and still have a box on the shelf in the pantry. i won't be buying it again because of the additives. apparently, morton does not make a salt without additives... even their sea salt has yellow prussiate of soda. so... sorry, morton. i will buy the diamond crystal kosher salt from now on. NO additives, just SALT. |
