4.0 out of 5 stars Great WWII Fun
I just got this DVD in June 2011 and I didn't expect alot based on the reviews, but I liked the premise and for the price of a used wargame I'm always interesting in giving something like this a try.

Loaded easily and opened without problems (used XP settings on Windows 7 operating system and had no problems).

Graphics were great...

2.0 out of 5 stars OK, for the price
Dated graphics and no updates make for a low-price game. You get what you pay for.

i played mortyr 1 and it was fun , i liked the graphics . mortyr 2 is not as fun , but it is more realistic , the game play is repetive , but the enemy AI is better than most games .

i like to run and gun , it is harder to do in this game because even on easy you have so many enemies shooting at you . i think that for alot of the shooters i have been playing lately that the easy mode should be easy . i like to play through a game on easy setting , than after i am familer with the controls and game play , go back and play it on a more diffcult setting . having played this game . i would buy call of duty instead .

3.0 out of 5 stars Mortyr 2 for ever, censored in Germany, uncut in the other World, January 4, 2012
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Mortyr 2 (CD-ROM)

... installiert, keine Probleme.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great WWII Fun, June 18, 2011

I just got this DVD in June 2011 and I didn't expect alot based on the reviews, but I liked the premise and for the price of a used wargame I'm always interesting in giving something like this a try.

Loaded easily and opened without problems (used XP settings on Windows 7 operating system and had no problems).

Graphics were great. Really liked the snow sounds while walking in Norway. Liked the fact that I left foot prints in the snow, very nice. The initial scenarios were laid out to direct you in a specific direction, but there were several options where you didn't have to follow the obvious route (avoiding getting shot). Instead of taking on roadblocks directly, it was easier to climb hills and shoot from above for example. But be careful because there always seems to be a soldier or two hiding someplace. There was ample first aid if you looked, but you had to search for it.

Playing on Realistic level was a bit difficult at first, but once a tactical style was developed the game was just a little challenging. I don't recommend charging the enemy because you generally die quickly. A scoped rifle is a great weapon to deal with the enemy squads. If you use a submachine gun (MP40, etc) at close range you'd better be accurate or you will be hit quickly.

I liked the mini movies within the scenario that gave you an idea of what was ahead. Nice to show what you might use (example was the machinegun mounted on the kubelwagen) to deal with a large squad.

I'm not done playing this but so far I'm pleased, especially for the price. It isn't Return to Castle Wolfenstein, but it has that flavor. If you can get it for $5 or so you'd be pleased.

3.0 out of 5 stars Better than I thought it would be., March 15, 2006

"Mortyr 2" has gotten a bad rap if you ask me. I went into it not expecting much, and I'm currently having quite a bit of fun with it. This game is not quite as polished as say "Call of Duty" or "Medal of Honor", but it is to me, just as fun. It is less linear than those games, for instance. You can explore somewhat, whereas with those other games, you are led down a pretty narrow path.

"Mortyr 2" doesn't feature state-of-the-art graphics or AI, but if you enjoy a pretty straightforward shooter with a few twists, I'd recommend giving it a try. It's been over a year since I bought the game, and I'm just now playing it for the first time. I'm about halfway through at the moment, but it's unpredictable enough that I'm sure I'll be finishing it. Interesting level design, and a pretty decent 3D engine.

My biggest gripe though does concern the 3D engine. I'm running this on an Athlon XP2600+ with a gig of ram and an nVidia 6600GT, and I had to set the resolution to 800 x 600 to get good framerates and high detail. 1024 x 768 slowed things down enough to nearly make it unplayable. So keep in mind you'll need at least the equivalent of my modest rig to run this decently. But even at 800 x 600, the game still looks pretty spiffy, with plenty of outdoor areas and creative gameplay and level design. I'm not disappointed in the least. Fun game!

1.0 out of 5 stars A very boring game, June 25, 2005

First off, I'll say something good about the game. The graphics are pretty good and the story line is okay.Istalling took a while but I got a chance to eat lunch while I watched it install. After getting it installed and seeing what looked like a great game getting started by the graphics, everything went downhill immediently.I had a decent graphic card but the movement was jerky.Worst of all were the constant hints telling me what to do and where to go.Large blue arrows pointing to where Ishould walk and bright yellow exclamation marks over the enemies heads.Duh!All that was missing were nametags .I like to figure things out when I'm in a game and not be led around like a dumb idiot.

This is a resource-hogging sow of a game, a gluttonous bottomless pit waiting to consume your PC. I can only assume the developers must have set up each of their effects to run on a different server. "You want fog? Sure, pal, that'll take another gig of RAM." It's unimaginable how a game of only above average graphical detail can completely disable perfectly good computers, while better looking games run smoothly.

And let's not mention the sound effects, hit detection, AI, storyline, on and on. The only value this thing has is as a learning tool of how not to make games. Which would be like buying a Yugo to learn how not to make cars. Which you wouldn't do. So don't.
