5.0 out of 5 stars The Same But Very Different, May 31, 2002
By
John S. Erickson (Fairfax, VA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mosaico (Audio CD)
Govi's new CD "Mosaico" is not only new music but there is a indefinable difference in the style and texture of the music.

The music is at the same time very smooth and yet rather complex in a very pleasing way.

I find myself being more aware of and impressed by Govi's wonderful style and understated technique.

As I find with all of Govi's music, this music tends to bring a multitude of visions and thoughts to mind and it is very easy to lose myself in this music.

While I have not found a song, on this CD, that has the lushness and power that I feel Amber Waves or Spirit Rider have, the whole package is an outstanding collection of excellent music.

I would highly recommend "Mosaico" to anyone who enjoys guitar music performed by one of the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars GOVI's saga of Magic continues ..., April 9, 2002
By
Billy Lum (KUALA LUMPUR Malaysia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mosaico (Audio CD)
ANOTHER GREAT album from my favourite guitarist, GOVI. This is my latest and seventh purchase from GOVI (MOSAICO arrived from amazon.com two days ago).

Alluring, captivating, spellbound moments are in order in MOSAICO. 10 superbly executed tracks with a variety of pace and rhythms sets the stage for a musical guitar odyssey. What more can I asked for from this guitar extraordinaire? GOVI gives me more than I can handle with (nylon) flamenco guitars, electric guitars, acoustic steel string guitars, archtop jazz guitars and even the mystical Indian sitar! *Pause for breath*

Like in all previous GOVI releases (whether with Real Music or Higher Octave Music), he weaves his superior compositional and writing skills conveyed faithfully via his 'voice' of his many guitars! Nicely complementing his 2002 efforts; Karunesh, Don Lax and Bob Harrison lend their respective expertise to make MOSAICO a picture-perfect musical outing.

After listening to MOSAICO in the last two days, I'd say that I do not have any particular favourites from this album - they are ALL EQUALLY gorgoeous. Top marks to each and every track. This is the first CD I have that has the sensuous sounds of the Indian sitar. "Spicy Dream" has just that - sitars. Just heavenly.

The progress from track #1 to #10 makes your listening session complete - very nicely arranged moods/pace/tempo, ranging from fast upbeat lively foot-tapping numbers to mid-tempo guitar glides to the 'stop-whatever-you-are-doing-and-listen' slow-burn smouldering guitar music that will move your spirits, and the same time, makes your day (or night) worth its salt!

The very interesting cover-artwork also warrants mention - many little coloured squares making up a complete picture (as in a mosaic), exactly the message I'm trying to put thro' here (in the paragraph above). Thoroughly enjoyable mix of music! Nice.

GOVI extends his thanks to 'existence for the showers of inspiration and blessings' and I personally thank GOVI, for his uncanny ability to capture and transform all the magic and beauty within our universe, via his superbly wide talents of making good music even BETTER. I salute you, GOVI.

My recommedation? If you are in the USA, grab it from your nearest music outlet now. If you are elsewhere, order one today via amazon.com (You CANNOT wait months for GREAT music to reach you. That's gross injustice to your life!)

TECH NOTE:- MOSAICO is on "HDCD". My non-HDCD sound system plays MOSAICO with aplomb and authority (with pristine, clear, articulate and warm sounds). Imagine what MOSAICO can do to HDCD-enabled systems ...

4.0 out of 5 stars You won't be disappointed, February 23, 2004
This review is from: Mosaico (Audio CD)
Govi's musical offerings are consistently reliable. A friend of mine introduced me to Govi with Guitar Odyssey, (a Masterpiece in itself!) and I've been hooked ever since. Though not true flamenco or even Spanish guitar, his range is even more world oriented and interesting without being too "themey". New Age isn't quite right as genres go; as I'm sure you know some new age music is just weird. This disc is excellent! It transcends theme and weaves an audio tapestry that conjures exotic imaginings. You will not be disappointed. My only complaint (?) is that the discs are short. I can appreciate the creative process; and i guess I would rather have a stripped down c.d. than lots of filler, but I'm sure he has the talent to produce a more substantial recording.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nylon-string guitar flights of fancy!!..., September 19, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Mosaico (Audio CD)
This release is superb! If you are a fan of beautifully executed and masterful guitar playing from the heart, get your hands on this disc. Govi and Strunz & Farah are my two favorite 'nouveau flamenco' artists by far. They exhude passion and warmth to their playing that not many others can achieve.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Melodies reflecting an intimate mood from our planet", March 12, 2002
This review is from: Mosaico (Audio CD)
Must hand it to Higher Octave, this third release from GOVI is his BEST...when the first
album "Adalusian Nights"(1999), believe this artist got my attention...then with his second
"Seventh Heaven"(2000), things got serious, he had me hooked and couldn't get enough of his
arrangements...they kept me entranced for days.

And now we have his latest "Mosaico"(2002), encompassing this ten selection project is
several flavors to choose from Flamenco rhythmic, Jazz tempo, Indian sitar and blends of
African moods give way to a very interesting and entertaining piece of music...as we listen to
the opening track "BUMBLEBEAT", stirring arrangement of Flamenco guitar with renewed
flare mixed with passion sets the tone for this album..."MOSAICO", our title tune lends violin
by Don lax, fingering guitar by Govi along with hand percussion counterpoints, Bob Harrison
electric bass sends the listener into a trance-like dimension...."AFRODISIAC", can't sit still as
the beat goes on with Govi and Karunesh bringing fun and culture awarness to the
program..."CAROUSEL", happy times, only smiles beam while a ray of sunshine comes
shining through, see if you don't feel the same way...wonderful way to start the day.

Total Time: 49:35 on 10 Tracks ~ Higher Octave HOMCD-11774 ~ (2002)

4.0 out of 5 stars More Classic Govi, May 27, 2006
This review is from: Mosaico (Audio CD)
The songs on this CD are stylisticly similar to Govi's previous release "Seventh Heaven". Two cuts are upbeat melodies and the rest are soft to medium. All are superbly played, in an understated complex style and (again) impeccably recorded. The low end bass notes reach the bottom depths of a good sound system without any hint of bloating or distortion and the clean, detailed, and balanced background percussion adds a beautiful sense of depth. On this CD Govi demonstrates a unique ability to tweek his music to stay fresh, while maintaining his classic sound. If this CD had one more high energy pulsating cut, I'd give it 5 stars. 5.0 out of 5 stars A Kaleidoscope of Sensual Music, May 23, 2002
This review is from: Mosaico (Audio CD)
"Mosaico" releases the tension and anxieties of the day with soothing ambient music for the soul. It is a sensual bouquet of delightful fragrances!!! This CD is a kaleidoscope filled with latin beats, flamenco, international cafe, i.e., French & Italian, Caribbean soul, and some Indian sitar mood music, and maybe it's just me, but here and there I hear snatches of some far off Central European melody, perhaps from a Hungarian Csarda or Coffee House. Ambient music affienados will be pleased with the smooth sounds created by Govi's guitar ... the speed and pressure of modern life melts away. You are refreshed, like listening to a waterfall or looking at flowers after a spring rain shower. Although the music is similar to Willie & Lobo, Strunz & Farah, and occasionally a little bit of Ottmar Liebert, it is *definitely* original and very, very relaxing!
It will appeal to anyone seeking a place of meditative solitude where creative energy resides ... Erika Borsos (erikab93)

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mosaico (Audio CD)
Some time after I purchased Heart of a Gypsy by Govi, I bought his second work and just wasn't as thrilled with it.

After not playing Govi for a few years, I read all the reviews of the music he'd put forth since H of a G. and decided on this CD. I am so glad I did and thank those reviewers for steering me to it. This CD is so wonderful to listen to...even having it on in the background while I'm working relaxes me...again: Sunshine music!!
