Passed the registry after many years out of x-ray.,

This review is from: Mosby's Comprehensive Review of Radiography: The Complete Study Guide and Career Planner, 4e (Mosby's Complete Review of Radiography) (Paperback)
I originally sat for the ARRT exam in 1973 and ventured into x-ray sales in 1978 and then away from radiology altogether in 1990. Since I didn't do the CEU's, I gave up my registry. I recently learned that the window of opportunity to get back in was rapidly closing and I needed to apply to retake the exam by 4/1/06. I took the exam on 3/20/06 and just learned that I passed with a 91...the same score I received in 1973! I no longer had any of my text books and so, I researched and bought two resources: F.A. Davis' Practice Guide for the Radiography Examination and Mosby's Comprehensive Review.
I liked Mosby's for all the study information it contained. It was laid out in a very straightforward, organized format that was easy to study. I also liked the format on the disk for both studying and the exam. Some of the questions seemed pretty elementary. In fact, after consistently scoring in the 90's on the Mosby tests, I took an F.A. Davis test and scored a 71! Davis was primarily a test resource. There were formulas in the front that were useful, but the real value was in the testing. All told, I seriously studied about 3 weeks before taking the registry. Obviously, this combination worked well for me. I have the same complaint about each: there were several questions from each disk where they marked a question wrong but the rationale they supplied said my answer was right. It made me question the validity of other questions. They need to go back and review all their questions again and revalidate them.

What I found helpful was the chapters on image production and evaluation. It was a pleasure to review from because it was written quite clearly and to the point. The chapter on Anatomy, Positioning, Procedures was also fantastic and a plus to review from. This book also had a lot of high quality radiographs to help explain important concepts.
I also utilized {Fundamentals of Anatomy and Physiology} by Frederic Martini as a good backup reference. I also found the following very helpful for arrt preparation and they are {The Ultimate Study Guide for the Registry Examination in Radiography: Key Review Questions and Answers (Topics: Radiation Protection, Equipment Operation & Quality Control) Volume 1} by Patrick Leonardi {The Ultimate Study Guide for the Registry Examination in Radiography: Key Review Questions and Answers (Topics: Image Production & Evaluation) Volume 2} by Patrick Leonardi {The Ultimate Study Guide for the Registry Examination in Radiography: Key Review Question and Answers (Topics: Radiographic Procedures: Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology and Positioning, Patient Care & Education) Volume 3} by Patrick Leonardi These three volumes have the kind of questions asked on the arrt exam. These five books were very crucial for helping me pass the arrt exam.

This new edition is fantastic! Callaway has structured ALL of the questions in the book and on the CD in the Registry format. The rationales for the answers are right on target. I've looked at the other radiography review books; save your money. Callaway's book is exactly what we all need. His writing is just as if we were in class with him. I wish he was my teacher. With this book, he is! I wouldn't use any other review book!

I sat for the registry on 9/8/07. I used this book and this book only. Studied fairly seriously for about 3 to 4 weeks and I secured a decent mark. Recommended.

This is an excellent review book. After completing the Radiography class, I used this to help prepare for the registry exam. With the help of this book, I passed my registry exam (06-2008) with an above average score. This book contains all the review material needed, Radiation Protection, Equipment Operation, Image Production, Procedures, and Patient Care. It also contains about 100 questions at the end of each chapter, three 200 question review tests, a career planning guide, and an EXTREMELY helpful review cd. The questions in the book contain the average "A,B,C,D and the 1, 2, &3" questions, but it also contains questions in which the answers can range 1-10. I highly recommend this Review book!

If you like a lot of bullets then you are going to love this book. (it is mainly bullet style) I personally don't like bullets. That just me though... On the other hand, this book has clear information and great reviews of main points. In the beginning I was completely overwhelmed with all the information and nervous about the ARRT radiography exam. I actually found out how to make preparing and passing this exam easy though. I made this video for you to get more of a perspective on this book and 4 other radiography prep books. You can check out another video I made "3 Keys To Pass The Radiography Registry With Ease" by using this URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daRTF4j2aJ0 (This is the link "below" and you have to copy it into your browser) Mike P.S. First of all, this is a good review book. I would recommend Corectec's online review program over Mosby's, though (I'm in no way affiliated with Corectec, by the way). Mosby's Review has many mistakes that could easily have been rectified by more stringent editing. Although it's 90% great, there are many mistakes in the practice exams. For example, some of the multiple choice questions don't even have choices to choose from, that's poor form! It's a good review, but not the best. Go with Corectec.

If you're getting ready to graduate and take your registry, I highly recommend this book. I admit, I freaked out a little and basically bought every Rad Tech review product I could find. But I honestly haven't even touched the other ones; this one is so comprehensive and well-written! My confidence went from almost 0 to totally confident in a matter of a month or two of studying this! It even has help writing your resume and all the info you need if you want to continue on in another modality once you're done. Plus it comes with a disc so you can take practice registries online and track your progress so you're not so nervous when the big day comes!
