This book and CD-ROM were invaluable in passing both the CEN and the CFRN on my first attempts. The question and answer format is challenging, and very true to the actual CEN. The CFRN section is a great supplement to the core curriculum for preparation. The rationale for each answer provides the student with a strong learning base.

I found 2 incorrect answers in the book, one has the wrong letter answer, and the other has a misworded question. The practice exam on CD-ROM also has the misworded question.

I highly reccomend this book to both first-time and returning examinees.

I also found this book extrememly helpful for CEN review. The questions were very similar to CEN. I passed on my first attempt with a high score with less than 2 years of experience! The trauma review was very good. However, if you work in a hospital with a cath lab, you may find the questions on thrombolytics difficult because you probably don't use them often. The CEN is geared to community hospital ERs, not the Level-I trauma centers and regional medical centers, so some of the questions may seem bizarre. Even so, the book covers the test well and is a great prep.

Holleran's CEN review is an excellent resource for nurses who wish to prepare and review for the emergency nurse certification exam. Nurses working in any ER will find this information helpful whether they work in a community setting or a level 1 trauma center.

Like most test prep booklets this attempts to represent the questions that are on the actual test. Since I have not actually taken the test yet, I don't have an opinion there. I have however compared the content to the outline provided on the BCEN website and so far I'm satisfied.

There is no way this book was origianly almost $300 dollars. I was expecting it to be alot longer in length for the price.. disappointed..

This book is a good basic review however, its too basic for preparing for the CEN.
