5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Story and Plot, November 19, 2010

This review is from: Moscow Rules (Paperback)
Extremely well written, another home run in my estimation for Daniel Silva.

His knowledge of all things "Moscow" is amazing and - as with all his novels - it has a tremendously developed list of characters and a great and topical plot. I highly recommend this!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting, November 2, 2010
This review is from: Moscow Rules (Paperback)
This is the first book I read by this author, and I enjoyed it so much I that have started to read his other earlier books. If you enjoy well written suspense novels this book is for you. This author falls in the class of early Forsythe, Higgins and Ludlum.

This book was hard to put down, my cousin read it after I did and got hooked too:)

2.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre at best, March 7, 2011
This review is from: Moscow Rules (Paperback)
I picked up a copy of this book after reading many glowing reviews of the author. Unfortunately, I found it a boring read. For starters, the characters are not very believable. Their reactions to events are not consistent with their roles, and they are lacking in depth. The plot line is even worse than the characters - the author contrives to put his hero in an impossible situation, then invokes a deus ex machina to solve the problem. The unspeakable crime of the villain turns out to be basically doing what the U.S. did in the '80s, except doing it for profit. About the best that can be said is that the writer does write well - but without a facility for characters and plot, that comes to nothing.

After completing the book I suspect the reviews are based on the author's political connections, rather than the merits of his writing. Certainly the world he portrays is perfectly matched to the neocon outlook.
