Book Description

April 1, 1997
One of Maimonides' classic works, the Treatise on Resurrection is an extended discussion of resurrection, the immortality of the soul, the mysteries of the Messianic Age, and the World to Come. The Treatise on Resurrection was controversial in its day for its departure from accepted Jewish theology. Despite opposition to his ideas, Maimonides defended his view with skill and confidence. Fred Rosner's notes provide the background necessary to fully understand Maimonides' position, and his translation is an articulate rendering of this influential text, which validates resurrection as one of the cardinal principles of Judaism.

5.0 out of 5 stars The 'Nesher Ha-Gadol' on a fundament of Jewish faith, July 8, 2005
This review is from: Moses Maimonides' Treatise On Resurrection (Paperback)
'Resurrection's is a fundamental teaching of Judaism, and one of the Rambam's thirteen principles of faith.
As Rav Yoni Berlin explained it the Rambam's belief in bodily ressurection related only to a small group of people i.e. those Tsaddikim whose return to earth could bring additional good to Mankind.
It is important here to distinguish between this process of physical bodily ressurection on earth, and the ultimate fate of all which is to be our life in the world- to- come. As I understand it the Rambam teaches that the life- in- the - world to come is a life of the soul.
This small volume gives the views of arguably the greatest of all Jewish thinker on an important subject of Judaism. Thus, its great value.

2.0 out of 5 stars Just an Index, August 16, 2000

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Moses Maimonides' Treatise On Resurrection (Paperback)
Considering the price tag that this text carries, one would be much better off buying any other Maimonides text. This book is nothing more than a supporting document of the Mishneh Torah and the Guide for the Perplexed. It doesn't nothing but direct the author in one of these directions. There aren't even any excerpts from the texts, just the classic, "see my writing in...". Don't waste your money. The only thing it does say is that Maimonides believed in a resurrection of the dead.
