2.0 out of 5 stars Not very good
Pros - Nice texture and thin enough for the palm area.

Cons - The trackpad area quality is lousy. Colour fades. The palmguard area keeps peeling off. Annoying.

4.0 out of 5 stars Top notch product with a hiccup, June 29, 2008
This review is from: Moshi PalmGuard Macbook Pro 15-inch Unibody Palmrest Protector - Silver (Electronics)
I purchased this product to protect my new 15" Macbook Pro's palm rest area and mouse button from discolouration. The product serves this purpose exceptionally well, and its matching colour scheme allows me to use my laptop without distraction. Here's a more detailed look.

1) Material/Quality
The palm and mouse button protection are made out the same sturdy, flexible plastic material which matches the interior aluminum of the Macbook pro in colour, but not in texture. The guard has a pleasant grainy texture instead, and does not feel like cheap plastic. While the cut of the button piece is exact, the palm guard gives you maybe 0.2mm of space (almost unnoticeable) in portions of the trackpad area. Overall, an excellent fit.

My main problem with this set is the thin silvery film that is included as a trackpad cover. It is made out of a completely different material from the other two pieces, and seems thin enough not to interfere with trackpad sensitivity. I initially applied it for a day, to test out whether the trackapad is affected. Unfortunately, I found that it was. The trackpad was no longer as sensitive to tapping, and it would sometimes take me 3 attempts to double click. If you naturally have a heavy tap, you probably wouldn't be affected by this problem. But I'm a light tapper, and I found myself needing to apply more pressure than what I'm used to when the trackpad film was on. I ended up removing the film and returning it to its box--though your mileage may vary. Trackpads aren't prone to discolouration in the first place, so this doesn't much take away from the overall quality of the product.

2) Application
Applying the product is very straightforward. There are three pieces, each of which is sticky on one side. All you need to do is align it properly, grab a ruler, and press out potential air bubbles --while-- you're applying the guard. Do not wait until later! If you do find that you have air bubbles, it it easier to gently pull up at one of the corners of the palmguard and unstick it to release the air. Remember to pull gently and not to bend the material too much: the plastic can flex a great deal without creasing or stretching, but you should be careful. I had to apply mine a couple of times before I got it the way I wanted it. The entire application took no more than 5 minutes, including the first failed attempt.

I would very much like to give this product 5 stars, but because of the trackpad film, it's not perfect. It gets 4.5 stars from me. As the previous reviewer already stated, this product does not disrupt the beautiful look and feel of the macbook pro. I would highly recommend to anyone looking to protect their macbook without altering its image.

Overall grade: A

5.0 out of 5 stars Really nice palm gaurd, June 8, 2009
This review is from: Moshi PalmGuard Macbook Pro 15-inch Unibody Palmrest Protector - Silver (Electronics)
For my old Macbook Pro I had the Marware. While the Moshi isn't quite as plush as the Marware it does look a lot nicer on my unibody new Macbook Pro. I'd say that is the biggest plus, it blends in really nice and is sized perfectly. I am always nervous putting things like this on, cuz you get one or two shots at most. I found that it went on pretty easy and I happened to get it perfect after one quick adjustment. I put the trackpad part on as well because in Bootcamp I find the mouse to be a little too sensitive. It still works quite well, but is a little less smooth than the bare trackpad. All things considered I think I like it better than my old Marware.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great MBP accessory...Must have, March 22, 2009

This review is from: Moshi PalmGuard Macbook Pro 15-inch Unibody Palmrest Protector - Silver (Electronics)
I have fallen in love with the durability of this Palm guard. It keeps dirt and grime off and feels 95% authentic. That smooth feel of the Macbook is what I miss but it doesn't really skip a beat with the palm guard applied. Thinking about how much time I spend on my laptop it would be silly not to protect it with one of these.

Pro's
-Went on easily...just be careful cuz you only get one shot. Mine went on great first try...which surprised me
-Feels smooth on your wrists just like the finish of the Macbook.
-Looks great...you can hardly tell that it's there unless you're looking for it. Perfect match for silver MBP

Cons
-The only concern I had after reading other reviews was the trackpad. I heard it wasn't very easy to use and made finger swiping a pain. I just bought a separate trackpad protector from another website. All in all I'm in about $35 but well worth it. Your Macbook's high traffc surfaces WILL wear down and look like S*** in no time at all. I've only had my MBP for 8 months and my trackpad was wearing down and looking old and beat up. Get this product tho you wont be disappointed

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommend for sweaty hands., February 23, 2009
This review is from: Moshi PalmGuard Macbook Pro 15-inch Unibody Palmrest Protector - Silver (Electronics)
I don't like other glossy dust covers, it ruins the beauty of MacBook Pro.
I'm so lucky that I found this product, coz my hands get sweaty easily.

This is a Stealth Protection. Nobody recognized this palmguard, even I do sometimes.

All I need to do for cleaning PalmArea is polishing with microfiber ccloth
and alcohol or Fabrize without any anxiety for the aluminum top.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome product!, January 15, 2009
This review is from: Moshi PalmGuard Macbook Pro 15-inch Unibody Palmrest Protector - Silver (Electronics)
I have tried a couple products before I found this one. I previously had "MacMate" clear film and I liked it but the texture was funky and it was hard to apply. One good think about that product was the trackpad film was thin enough not to interfere.

This product matches my machine perfectly in color so I can forget that i have a sticker on it. Application was easy and it feels like it isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I have the trackpad film on right now to test it. It isn't terribly slow, but definitely not as quick as without the film.

Regardless, this is an excellent product, I highly recommend it (and definitely over marware)

The palm rest and touchpad button covers are great...good fit, easy to apply. I was also able to easily peel up and then reset the palm rest cover easily. The only problem I have with the product is the film that is intended to cover the touchpad itself. I changed the texture of the touchpad with the end result being a slight "stickier" feel. I removed the touchpad film after about a day of trying it out.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Design, feel, and fit, May 2, 2008
This review is from: Moshi PalmGuard Macbook Pro 15-inch Unibody Palmrest Protector - Silver (Electronics)
I truly love the design. The Palmguard just looks awesome on my white Macbook. Since the material which is used is very similar to the original top case it blends in very well. I especially like the little logo in the right bottom corner - now that is elegant understatement of the finest. The feel is very nice also. Because of the material which is used, there is no "sticky feeling" like with other palmrest protectors. The fit of the Palmguard is very exact, too.

To summarize:
I think if you are on the search for palmrest protection only this is the one that fits the best (color-wise and material wise) and feels the best when resting your palms on it.

Final thoughts:
I recommend this product to all Macbook owners that want protection for the palmrest area and want to do it without attracting too much attention. From a distance you won't be able to notice the Palmguard because it doesn't reflect, because it matches the color of the top case very well and finally because there is no large company logo on it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Protection, May 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Moshi PalmGuard Macbook Pro 15-inch Unibody Palmrest Protector - Silver (Electronics)
I just bought the new MacBook Pro and wanted to protect it against dirt, fingerprints, spills and any other mishaps that may occur. One problem I was having is that my watch was hitting the palm-rest. My Mac would have been scratched very quickly without some sort of protection. So, I bought this product and I'm glad I did.

This protector has two parts, one for the palm-rest and the other for the mouse pad. There is a slight grainy texture to both. The color is very close to the Mac, but not exact. The cover is a slightly darker color. However, the color does blend well anyway.

I thought the mouse pad cover would interfere with the sensitivity of the mouse, but it doesn't. As for the fit, it is within a hair's width of being perfect.

I am very pleased with this product and I highly recommend it.

The palmrest fits perfectly and matches the finish of the MBP. It does everything it claims to do. I did not put on the trackpad cover as it seemed to get in the way. My only reason for giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that the current MBP has a rubber dust seal on the LCD edges, and this palmguard interferes with it when the laptop is closed. Probably not a big deal. It doesn't interfere with the ability to close the laptop, but it probably touches the seal unevenly at the transition of the sticker and the uncovered laptop areas.

This review is from: Moshi PalmGuard Macbook Pro 15-inch Unibody Palmrest Protector - Silver (Electronics)
I read other reviews before purchasing this protective cover for my Macbook and it seemed easy enough to use. It was VERY easy and went on the first time. You can't tell that it's even there and the color matches the laptop perfectly. The piece that covers the mouse pad affected it's use somewhat and, maybe it's my imagination, but it made my finger tingle. I finally removed it. I highly recommend the cover and it definitely protects your keyboard from scratches.
