No more holding down buttons to set the alarm!, January 27, 2010
This review is from: Moshi Speak n Set Touch Activated Clock (Kitchen)
Bottom line: I really like this unique, voice-activated alarm clock. It only needs minor tweaking to be fabulous.
Here are the pros and cons:
Pros: Small. Takes up very little room on the nightstand. Attractive egg-shell-colored base with small square hard-plastic display. Because it's battery-powered (3 AAA), it will continue to work even when the power goes off. Small enough to pack for travel. Simple to use. This would be a great clock for someone with visual impairment (it will tell you the time and other data by voice) or difficulty with fine motor skills. Unlike earlier versions, this Moshi doesn't waste your time with unnecessary words. It is polite, e.g.: "Command, please." The female voice of Moshi is a soft alto voice that is easy to listen to. I worried that, after a while, I would find a clock voice irritating, but so far that hasn't happened.
Almost everything you need to do with this clock you can do by voice commands. My favorite voice command is "set alarm." I always hated having to set and re-set my old alarm based upon when my children needed to get to school or whether it was a weekend or weekday. I particularly hated holding down the "set alarm" button, only to run past the alarm time I wanted. My old alarm wouldn't let me back up and I would have to hold the button down again while it went completely around its 24 hour mechanism to return to the time I needed. Sometimes (was I pressing harder?) I would again miss my alarm time, and have to repeat the process. Aggravating! With Moshi, I simply press the small rectangular display and, in response to its succinct query, tell it the alarm time I want. It verbally confirms the alarm time, and I'm done. It takes about 10 seconds max to set the alarm! This feature alone is worth the price of the clock!
There are voice commands for virtually (but not all) functions for which you need a clock. By voice, it will tell you the time, alarm set time, room temperature, day and date. By voice, you can tell it "sleep sound," and it will play the pleasant sound of an ocean for 5 minutes to help you fall asleep.
Cons: You can't set "today's date" by voice. You have to use tiny buttons on the underside of the base and it's a bit of challenge to figure out how to do that. Once you set the date, though, it automatically knows the day of the week.
Although you have a choice of 3 alarm sounds, they are all unpleasant. I hope Moshi changes them in future versions. (You can get a snooze period and end the alarm for the moment by simply touching the display. It will allow you 2 9-minute snooze periods before it cuts off.) I reluctantly will live with the sounds, though, for the FABULOUS convenience of voice commands. It's a trade-off I happily make.

Moshi Speak n Set Touch Activated Clock, May 10, 2010
This review is from: Moshi Speak n Set Touch Activated Clock (Kitchen)
Nice clock and easy for me to use, but unfortunately I purchased it for my elderly mother who has retina degeneration and cannot see to tell the time. I don't recommend this for the elderly. It is too easy for them to set the alarm to the wrong time or set the clock to the wrong time etc. I recommend a clock you just have them press the button and it tells the time, date, and maybe even the temperature without the ability to set the time/alarm by talking to the clock. For the record I love it for myself it is kind of fun and has a sweet voice!

u have to repeat command over and over. If there is any sound in background it doesn't understand your voice.
