5.0 out of 5 stars Nice in-ears August 16, 2012
Verified Purchase
I bought these for my son to use with his 4S, but thought I'd take them for a test drive before giving them to him. I was pleasantly surprised by not only the sound, but also the comfort. With the four different sized tips included, I was able to get a perfect fit with the medium size rubber tip. As with any in-ear headphone, audio performance is directly linked to how good of a seal you get in your ear canal. It's pretty simple....the better the seal, the better the noise isolation and bass response - plus a lower volume setting on your source.

Overall, the sound is balanced with clean tight bass and a very smooth mid-range. The upper range is clean, controlled and well defined. I'm not a big fan of "bright" sounding headphones, so these fit the bill nicely. The low-noise braided cable is a nice touch.

As an added bonus, the slick storage case is great. All in all, a really nice set of well designed, good sounding buds. I'm not sure my son is every gonna get 'em!

5.0 out of 5 stars Moshi Vortex August 13, 2012
Verified Purchase
The headphones comes with 3 different earbud sizes s/m/l as well as pair of foam earbuds. Also included is a rather convinient carrying case for the heaphones. The carrying case might be a little to big for most people to fit in their pocket comfortably, but it would be no problem to thrown in a bag or purse and alliviates the worry of having the cable beoming entangled.

The first thing you will notice with these headphones, is the sheer weight of each earbud. At first I was concerned that this would lead to it falling out of my ear often as well as it possibly being uncomfortable. This was not the case as I was pleseantly suprised by how well they fit in my ears. After a few seconds you forget the headphones are even in your ears and the weight seems to disappear. I decided to test how well these earphones would stay in my ears and have used them for a full week in my workouts and runs. I found that only when i was sweating enough to fill up a small pool did these come disloadged from my ears. The only thing that will keep me from continuing using these headphones for work outs is the fact that i already own a pair a wireless headphones, and the cable of the Moshi Vortex is a minor distraction/inconvience when running for hours.

The sound quality is fantastic as it can handle deep bass well without taking away quality from the mid to upper frequencies. While these headphones don't have noise canclation, due to how well they sit in one's ears a good portion of outside sound is blocked or at least dampened, which is a rather nice bonus. In addition there is the additional phone function that allows you to answer/ignore incoming calls.

Overall, I would say that the Moshi Vortex is the best pair of earbud headphones I have ever bought. I would highly recommend them and I think the price is just about right for the product that you're getting.

The build is quite impressive, what with the stylish triangular metal alloy housings, and the thick braided cable. The housings are sturdily built and are actually rather heavy, probably the heaviest of any IEM I've tried. I didn't have much of an issue with them in terms of weight but wearing them cable up was certainly preferable to wearing them straight down in terms of comfort.

In addition, iPhone and smartphone users should be pleased to note that the Vortex includes a 1 button remote and microphone for taking calls. This is a superfluous feature to me but I'd imagine it'd worth noting.

Speaking of comfort, the silicone tips were a bit too shallow in my ears and I ended up replacing them with Sony Hybrids

In terms of sound quality, I must say I'm impressed for the price I paid. The low end has more presence and impact than I was expecting, which, at least in terms of sheer volume can run with just about every heavy-hitter I have in my collection. It extends in a linear fashion to the lowest sub-bass regions and remains powerful and rumbles nicely at 30Hz or so. The Moshi loses out in terms of bass texture to the harder edged Atrio M5 and Miles Davis Tributes but seeing as the Moshi is less than half the price of either those two, I'd say its low end performance is quite impressive.

The midrange is slightly recessed compared to the lows and can sound a bit smeared at times and lacks transparency, especially when compared to something like the RE0 or the ADDIEM. The Vortex isn't a bad performer in terms of its midrange but its thick sound likely won't appeal to everyone. Moving up to the high end, the Vortex is somewhat laid back, much like the midrange, though its lower treble edges close to the sibilance line but never quite gets there.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
~Steel alloy construction and braided cable give impression of high build quality, though my first impression was also that these felt really heavy for earbud style headphones. Customizable with 3 sizes of silicone ear tips, S=11.1mm, M=12.3mm & L=13.4mm, they fit in the ear incredibly well, and always feel very secure - never heavy or uncomfortable, which surprised me a bit. I've owned several earbud style headphones over the years and these are definitely among the most comfortable. As a matter of fact, all three Moshi In-Ear Headphones (Moshi Moonrock In-Ear Headphones for Kindle Fire HD, Lime,Moshi Dulcia In-Ear Headphones for Kindle Fire HD, White, & Moshi Vortex Premium In-Ear Headphones for Kindle Fire HD, I tested are the most comfortable ones I've ever used which includes Sony & Bose.
~Audio quality is very, very good. Certainly not the best I've ever experienced, but definitely not too far off. I prefer good low end and high end response and these headphones did not disappoint. I found them to have strong punchy bass and very clear and crisp highs, a huge leap in audio quality from a set of standard Apple headphones, for comparison.
~Cord fastener works well to cinch up the cable and help avoid tangles.
~Integrated microphone & click button work seamlessly with Kindle Fire HD & Apple products. For music, the button allows pausing, advancing and rewinding songs.
