Looks good, but...,

While based on an excellent muzzle brake, this item is absolutely NOT recommended for actual use. If you want to dress up your M44, then this'll work fine, but this item has multiple issues that severely limit it's usefulness.First, it appears to have been turned on a lathe operated by a novice machinist at Political Re-Education and Forced Labor camp #707. Every surface shows tool marks, and every edge is sharp. But what do you want for just $10? Second, the machine screws that hold the collar that secures the brake to the muzzle ARE FAR, FAR TOO WEAK!! After firing just 3 rounds, the brake was creeping forward and bending these tiny screws. They simply are too weak to withstand full power muzzle blast! If I had fired the remaining 2 rounds it likely would have been ejected downrange, with unknown damage to the sight base, etc. Third, installation of this brake prevents deployment of the bayonet. Therefore, it is not recommended.

First of all, I was hesitant on buying this product because of the super low price and free shipping (I worried it would be of poor quality), also due to the lack of reviews and the variation in ratings I was not sure what to think. So, I finally decided to buy this product since I figured it was so inexpensive that even if it did not work, at least it would look pretty cool. However, I am completely blown away by this product.Shipping was super fast, and installation only took 60 seconds or less. It came with everything to install it (allen wrench) and fit perfectly onto my M44 Mosin Nagant without having to alter or modify the muzzle brake in any way. Just shot my M44 today and I was surprised at how well this reduced the recoil. My girlfriend shot my rifle before installing the muzzle brake and only shot a few rounds. Today, she and some other friends loved shooting it because it did not hurt one bit. Highly recommend buying this product. A rifle that I rarely shot has now become a favorite!!!

This muzzle break worked great while it was still in one piece. It really did reduce the recoil by about 30%. The only trouble is it blew off while i was shooting and upon inspection it was the weak screws that got sheared in half. So buy at your own risk.

Easier ways to injure yourself,

Instead of buying and utilizing this muzzle brake, throw a sealed can of corn into a bonfire and then place your face close to the blaze until the can explodes and sprays you with shrapnel, same effect in the end.The M44 or any of the Nagant 40" carbines such as the cut-down M91's produce tremendous muzzle blast and heat (try firing it at dusk, the flames shoot 4' from muzzle) so you better have a competently produced brake to handle the effects of firing. This brake isn't it. The thing is poorly machined, inadequately secured to the rifle, and looks to be made of cheap pot metal. Eventually it will work itself off, tilt from the blast heat, or explode when a fired round manages to catch it on the way to the target. If you're lucky the brake will travel down range, if you're not it will shatter at the muzzle and create what I described in the first paragraph. If you really want a muzzle brake on a flamethrowing beast like the M44, first ask yourself why. Quick follow-up shot? This isn't an M4. Reducing recoil kick? Add a $15 buttpad and improve your shooting form. Reducing gas flame? Why...that's the fun of an M44.

Received, Installed, then tested. First time; 5 shots: worked OK. Second time: 10 shots; worked OK. Third time, shot 25 times: muzzle brake gone! On a Russian M44 a tremendous fire blast occurs which makes the barrel quite hot. The muzzle brake has to contend with diverting this fire. Obviously, the 2 screws holding the brake on just can not handle this kind of heat! Don't buy it! You don't want to be firing the next round as the brake is falling off the barrel! If I could rate this product as it comes out of the box, I would say a 5 star. Now, I would like to rate it a minus five. You are taking your life into your own hands when you fire your M44 with this Muzzle Brake. In reality, you are much better off spending $25 for a rubber stock pad that Amazon carries. A muzzle brake is designed to reduce kick-back. But, a brake increases the sound. The kick-back is not a big deal to a shooter who has a stock pad. In fact my Sako 243 kicks more than the Russian M44.

I have owned this product for about two years and never had a problem at all. I installed it on a 1947 M44 and blue lock-tited the screws. Never moved or come loose whatsoever. The people that say they are not satisfied are crazy, first, it's NCStar-what quality do you expect? Second it's $10.00, Third if it comes off your gun, YOU are the incompetent and unsafe gunsmith. From these reviews it looks like it only fits M44's out of the box. It will annoy anyone at the range because it spits out all that force to either side of you, it can clear the lanes quickly. I got it because I built a scout rifle for hunting and wanted the reduced recoil. Don't know if it is reduced or not. I also used the rubber butt pad that is sold here and it is well worth it. Buy this product at your own risk and be sure you possess the competency level needed to work with guns, safely.

Mosin Nagant Muzzle Break,
This review is from: Mosin Nagant M44 Muzzle Brake/Bolt-On (Sports)
This is a nice muzzle break that doesn't require any gunsmithing which is nice but some older mosins will require a little coaxing to get it all the way on.

Junk.,
This review is from: Mosin Nagant M44 Muzzle Brake/Bolt-On (Sports)
Don't waste your money. 5 shots in, screws sheared, brake blew off 10 feet down the range, bracket is no where to be found. If you replaced the grade 2 screws with grade 5 or grade 8, perhaps it would be more reliable, but I'm a person the believes you should sell a product out of the box that works correctly. Very disappointed. I don't care about the price, which is cheap, I just wanted this product to work correctly.

Mosin-Nagant Muzzle break... Break off!!,
By
This review is from: Mosin Nagant M44 Muzzle Brake/Bolt-On (Sports)
WARNING! UNSAFE UNIT! DO NOT PURCHASE!I had this unit on my M44 Scout rifle. Workmanship: Rough, even by Soviet standards. Burrs and tool marks abound. Durability: None. While Soviet milsurp tends to be rough but it more than makes up for that it it's ruggedness. NOT IN THIS CASE! Material: The steel is soft and cheap. The allen key will chew up the cheap screws as well making removal difficult (unless you unwisely decide to shoot it off!). Bluing adequate for a 50+ year old rifle so it might look good. If you merely want to dress up your rifle for a unique look go for it. However, the cost you save in this muzzle break will be far outweighed by any potential damage to the rifle or even more tragically, the shooter or bystanders. After 4 rounds the unit shot off the rifle. Fortunately it came clean off and my wife and I were spared the peppering of steel and lead had the bullet struck the unit. I was using Brown Bear ammo. Hot for sure however when manufacturing firearm parts the material should exceed the maximum stress and abuse the rifle will throw at it. Imagine if the break had come off part way and in the bullets' path at the muzzle. We were lucky. You have been warned.
