5.0 out of 5 stars A great shoulder saver
This is a great product for a reasonable price. It shipped quickly and arrived in perfect condition.

The pad itself installs easily. All you need to do is remove the buttplate and install the pad using the screws that previously held on said buttplate. It can be installed in a few minutes with a standard flat-head screwdriver.

3.0 out of 5 stars Recoil Pad?
This thing is as hard as a rock. I have ordered a slip on pad like one of the other reviews. It also needed some work with a dremel tool and a file to get it to fit properly

Once you shoot with the pad on, you'll wonder what took you so long to buy one. It reduces the Mosin Nagant's shoulder-dislocating kick to something resembling more of a firm, squishy push. The pad doesn't move around at all when shooting and doesn't significantly change your rifle's dimensions (it adds about an inch in the stock).

On top of it all, it looks pretty darn cool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice addition., March 21, 2010

Just unscrew the steel head smasher off the back of your 91/30 and screw this on.
Works great! The fit isn't perfect on my gun, but it's pretty good. Function on the other hand is terrific. The extra inch makes aiming easier, and the recoil is greatly reduced.

fit my 91/30 mosin nagant perfectly, does noticably reduce felt recoil, and lengthens the stock to a more comfortable position for longer armed ppl like me

5.0 out of 5 stars Great recoil pad, try this modification..., June 5, 2011

This review is from: M44 Mosin Nagant Rubber Recoil Butt Pad (Misc.)
I bought this pad for a 1942 Mosin Nagant 91/30, and it was super easy to install and looks about as good as an aftermarket recoil pad can. I simply removed the steel butt plate and installed this recoil pad using the original screws, it took all of 2 minutes.

However, other reviewers have stated that this pad is too hard to really absorb the recoil, while others found it acceptable. After inspecting it, I saw the pad has 6 holes on each side of the recoil pad, but they do not go all the way through. This leaves a solid rubber spine down the middle of the pad. So using a drill and bit that matched the hole size, I drilled 4 of the 6 holes all the way through.

The only reason I didn't drill all 6 was because one of the holes near the bottom is also where the screw that holds the pad on goes through, which means if I messed up and removed too much rubber it could possibly break loose. Not wanting to risk that I left that hole undrilled, and in the interest of aesthetics I left one near the top undrilled so it would look uniform.

I took the rifle out today, and I can honestly say the recoil pad performed very well. Say what you will, but I was in pain after just a few rounds from this rifle before; I shot several rounds from this pad today and now it's just a nice push instead of a sharp kick. I did not fire the rifle with the recoil pad BEFORE drilling it, so I'm not sure how much my modification helped, but I think from simply pushing on it with my hands it definitely is absorbing more energy.

It only takes a few minutes to drill the holes out, just have a nice place to do it since all the hard rubber bit make quite the mess. I included a few (bad) pics above so you can see what I did.

Hopefully this will work for you as well, and make shooting this wonderful rifle a pain-free joy again :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect!, January 12, 2009

This is a MUST buy for any mosin users. In addition to the other review it also adds stability when aiming because it doesnt slip off of your shoulder. If you ever drop your mosin vertically the pad helps absorbs the drop. Very tough rubber and easy to install.

Got it from seller, Combat Optical promptly.
Installed in 2 minutes on my m91/30. Uses the same screws as original buttplate.
Fits well. Shot 20 rounds and before I had to switch to the other shoulder; excellent. Previously it was 6 or 7 before bruises.

The Mosin Nagant Recoil Butt Pad was my husband's purchase...and you would have thought it was "Christmas in June". Not only did it show up in only a couple days, BUT IT WORKS!. He had no trouble fitting it to his Model 91/30, infact it fit the rifle exactly. It dampens the recoil and blends in like an original piece of the stock. Best of all, he says it gives the added benefit of helping to correct the stock length to the size of 'modern humans'.

is what it is. Rubber butt pad to replace the steel one on stock mosins. Really helps with the recoil. I can fire 75 rounds now downrange before my shoulder gives out. At 30 - 40 rounds previously, I couldn't take it anymore. In conjunction with a shooting jacket, you'll be good to go for a full day of bench testing your rifle. I worry that over time the rubber will tear loose from the screws. An upgrade to the design might be threaded inserts that sit in the rubber so the screw has something to bottom out against but I'm sure that would add to the price of production. Already my addons to this gun total more than the gun itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dont listen to the whinners..., December 5, 2011

Ignore all the whiners saying Stupid things about this product!

My 15 year old daughter became sick of her 22 rifle and wanted to "Woman-Up" to a REAL fire arm... She fires my .30-30 with little trouble. After watching a friend's 14 year old son shoot 25 holes in a half inch pipe at 50 yards, and then learning about the 22 cent per shot ammo. My daughter and I researched and bought a Mosin at a gun show the same day she graduated her hunter safety course.

My daughter is pretty tough, but We were DEEPLY concerned about the Mosin's 308 level, killer kick freaking her out and causing her to become fearful of, or reject this weapon. So I purchased this Recoil Butt Pad. I also read all the reviews before I made the purchase, hoping it was as good as some said it was... I also read how some folks used drills to clear out the holes in the recoil but bad to increase its efficiency. I completed the drill idea.

I fired our Mosin for the first time this weekend with this "drilled out" product installed. There was no "kick" at all, but rather a stout "shove" that was just a little more than HALF the "kick" of my .30-30! Amazing!
My first reaction was "HEEEEEY! This butt pad ROCKS!" I loaded 1 round and called my daughter over to fire her rifle for the first time. She winched, and squirmed, and whined about her "fear" of the Mosin's kick! It took FOREVER... But when she finally pulled the stupid trigger, her reaction was pure surprise and embarrassment, "Whoah! What the heck was I afraid of...I feel like such a baby! Give me more bullets dad!"

BTW: the this product does not "smell" either... I don't know who the sissy wimps are out there that complained about this product but don't listen to them, they are clearly idiots. This product is EVERYTHING and MORE than the best reviews have said about it... If your Mosin is kicking the snott out of you, buy this, drill it out, and you will find that even your Kids can fire it!
