first of all, this cd is a combination of the american releases of THE RED SEA (which includes ISIS' 1998 demo) and MOSQUITO CONTROL. both albums are incredible. but this cd also includes 2 tracks (the last track on each of the two discs) from ISIS' rare sawblade e.p., which was only given out at concerts and is not available to buy any other way. for any religious ISIS fan or someone who simply does not have THE RED SEA or MOSQUITO CONTROL, this japanese release is worth buying. for lyrics and info on all the songs on this release, check out ISIS' website: [...]

I agree with the other reviewer; if you don't already have these two EPs then this is the best way to get them, the two bonus tracks are alone worth it. Even though Streetcleaner and Hand Of Doom are now available on their most recent b-sides record, Temporal, both albums would feel incomplete without them.

Musically, The Mosquito Control and The Red Sea are far different than what Isis became. This is not obviously a great place to start with the band as these pieces of work are very hardcore/sludge metal oriented, rather than the post-metal sound they would eventually evolve into. Just listen to Hive Destruction or Red Sea to get crunched with heavy guitars and frenetic song structures. Also, as you may know the second half of The Red Sea is composed by their first 1998 demo, which actually holds up pretty well with the rest of the material.

To conclude, yes you will hear an immature version of ISIS but even in-between all the rawness you can tell you are listening to a band with potential and tight musicianship.

I would rate each album 3.5 stars (Mosquito Control being my favorite of the two), but as a big fan this deluxe version is a must. 5 stars
