4.0 out of 5 stars fun stuff
The Mosquito II is a fun toy to fly around the house. Once I got used to the sensitivity of the control I was able to fly it pretty much anywhere. The only down side is that the blades won't stop spinning when I let go of the throttle. They spin for an extra 5-10 seconds which isn't good when I crash it. It moves forward pretty quickly compared to other indoor helis...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great value for the money (with caveats)
I have used this toy for a total of three charging cycles (about 30 min total). There is a definite learning curve - I spent most of the first two sessions skimming along the surface of the floor, trying to get the hang of making it go where I wanted. On the third session, I had it mostly in the air, but could only control it for short hops.

Positives:...

It moves forward pretty quickly compared to other indoor helis I've flown. Backwards is pretty slow, but it still moves.
I also own a Mosquito I which is has a much more sensitive controller and a quicker response time, but is less stable, especially if a draft of wind catches it. It's not as noisy as the Mosquito II, and a few of the parts have broken (piece of the blade, stabilizer pins) from some crashes, but it still flies just as well.
The Mosquito II seems to be more durable and would still be my pick. The fiber-optics down the side of it are pretty cool too...

5.0 out of 5 stars Stable and easy to fly. Instant fun!, December 28, 2007

The Micro Mosquito 2 is a very stable and fun helo. Within 30 minutes, I was able to fly it without putting anything together. With no previous RC helicopter experience, I was hovering instantly. As with all helo's, it is a little difficult keeping the tail straight, but there's a trim button that will help stabilize the tail spin, if it is an issue.

Of course, every new person will crash it or have hard landings, but after a week of constantly flying it, it still has held together even though it has crashed into leg chairs and walls. It handles most minor collisions without breakage and has not marked up the walls or hurt anything I have run into.

CONS: It doesn't go backwards very fast and after about 15 minutes, you have to recharge, but all small helo's don't fly much longer.

PROS: Very cool looking, made of plastic, not styrofoam, quick charge, easy to fly, doesn't break as easy as some others

I would highly recommend this for anyone unless you are looking for an outside helo that can handle wind and longer RC distance. This is perfect for the beginner or a person that wants to fly helo's indoors.

I have used this toy for a total of three charging cycles (about 30 min total). There is a definite learning curve - I spent most of the first two sessions skimming along the surface of the floor, trying to get the hang of making it go where I wanted. On the third session, I had it mostly in the air, but could only control it for short hops.

Positives: Much larger than other RC helis in the same price category. Unorthodox rotor design makes it truly flyable in theory, as it has three axes of input - up/down, right/left (yaw), and forward/back. LED lights look cool and help you keep track of where it is. Different colors fore and aft make it easy to tell which way it's pointed. Light intensity also gives you an idea of remaining battery power. Fairly durable - I bumped it into several walls, posts and pieces of furniture, and had many light crashes, including one down a flight of stairs, and it's still in one piece and working perfectly.

Negatives: It loses the ability to leave the ground about half-way through the battery charge - I can still skim around the floor, but it won't take off. I have not gotten the hang of getting it perfectly trimmed yet, and I'm not sure if this is possible, as the required trim seems to change with the battery state. This seems to raise the learning curve, as I'll have to learn to make constant, small inputs just to keep it flying straight and level. Directions are translated, barely - luckily it's very easy to use, but there are some small things left unexplained.

Overall, it is fun, and a great value for the money.

After having this toy for a longer time, I would change my review above to read as follows:

Most of the positives of this toy have to do with the fact that it is a helicopter you can fly in your house - in other words, I didn't find this particular RC helicopter to be exceptional in any way. I am impressed by its durability - I've crashed it into walls and down stairs, but the only thing that broke any of its parts was my trying to adjust it by hand (see negatives, below). It doesn't matter how durable it is if it doesn't really work, so I can't recommend the Mosquito unless it is for a small child who will be happy to have the thing skim along across the ground, and who can be trusted not to let it fly right into his own face.

The biggest, glaring negative about this product is that after under 10 charging cycles, it became incapable of getting more than an inch or so off the ground. I have tried adjusting the rotors, but the plastic they are made of, while durable, will not hold a different shape when flexed - it will crack first. Also, while practice does bring better control, I find this toy too skittish to be truly controllable. It is only possible to get it to go in a general direction - you can get it to fly towards one part of a room, but in doing so, you will be bouncing off the floor, walls, and furniture, not flying around them. The trim controls work well, but as the battery drains down, the amount of necessary trim changes, further complicating control.

Overall, it is fun to use for a while, but without real controllability and the ability to get far off the ground, it doesn't have lasting appeal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Skip Pilot Training!, March 9, 2008
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Mosquito Version 2 RC Helicopter - RTF (Toy)
This is a swell helicopter...it is very stable due to its twin rotors and it flies for nearly the time it takes to charge if you don't overcharge it. It will rise in the air at least 3 stories and move forward, backward, left, right, down, or just hover (just don't let it descend too quickly if you prefer not to snap off the propeller). In response to some hasty reviews of this product: remember that you must learn to control it well to make it fly to predestined locations - make sure that you set the rudder trim so that it hovers in one position and doesn't spin in the air. Also, since the helicopter is quite sensitive to directional changes, you may have to search for an off-center "sweet-spot" on the control pad to make it consistently move forward or backwards without turning (this requires some patience). Don't be disappointed right away - after a single day of practice, I was able to launch it from the floor of one room and land it over fifty feet away on top of a very tall bookshelf down the hall. I would keep it indoors because it is very susceptible to wind changes, ceiling fans, and even air conditioning. However, despite these drawbacks, I feel that it is still certainly a very worthy purchase.

The heli was fun and it is really cool when it is flying. The trim button is very sensitive and after I accidently pressed it, the heli just rotated almost uncontrolably. I contacted the seller and they replied promptly with a fix. Pressing the button 20 times is the fix.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice little helicopter, March 18, 2008

I have owned a micro mosquito helicopter in the past, but it was a little different than this one, and it broke in a couple different ways within a few days of opening the package. So when I saw the pictures of this "version 2" model, I was excited because it was the flimsy rotors on the last one I had that were so troublesome, and I thought that the version 2 rotors looked better.

And I was right! This little helicopter takes a beating and just keeps on ticking. It is a little larger than the other one I had, and a little more challenging to fly but it is extremely fun and I would recommend it to anyone who wants some challenging fun.

I wish the control was more precise, no picking up stuff like the commercials you might have seen for RC Helicopters. The toy sometimes has it's own mind, it will fly up or turn on without being asked. When you crash and you will crash all the time, the rotors keeps turning. I have had many hard crashes and it still can fly. The charging time is good and the flying time is about 10 min. Care toward the end minutes as the device goes crazy for some reason, best not to try and fly when the battery is low. I had my share of fun, the price is fair for the technology you get. If one is careful one can enjoy this toy for sure.

I bought this helicopter after owning a Huan Qi 3-channel. After owning this one, the old copter is back in its box in the closet. For the price, the Syma Mosquito II awesome. With trim buttons (rather than the trim nob on the Huan Qi) it is much easier to control copter spin. Because of its light weigh, the mosquito can crash into almost anything with no damage... absolutely none. After beating the crap out of a set of rotor blades on the Huan Qi, I decided to buy an extra set of rotor blades with the Mosquito. These have been completely unnecessary. I am still using the original set of rotors and they have sustained absolutely no damager. This is amazing considering how many times I have crashed it into the refrigerator, the ceiling, the lamps and lights, the entertainment center, the stair railing, my daughter and wife, the dog (on purpose), the vacuum cleaner, myself, etc. There are a couple of down-sides to the copter however. First, it is very small so does not handle outdoor flying very well. The slightest gust of wind will send it into a death spiral. It shines indoors however. Also, keep a close eye on the tail rotor. It will pop off and is very hard to find (being small and black). I solved the problem by pressing it firmly onto the tail shaft after every flight. It will come loose over time if you do not keep on top of it. The Mosquito II ships with an extra tail rotor just in case. Great indoor RC copter... great fun.

Although this is a lot of fun to fly and easy to use, it is definitley not durable. My son only played with it for about 10 minutes before it crashed and broke. The front leg snapped and the blade cracked off. I think the manufacturer should include replacement parts if the toy is that fragile.

Good fun once you get the control response sorted out. Flies well, good duration. The throttle response is a bit slower than the flight controls, it takes a little delay before power changes happen.
I put just a bit of silicon lube on the mast where one plastic part is rotating inside another, it quieted it down and seemed to fly longer and smoother.
Tail rotor motor got sticky after about 40 flights, still waiting for replacement from Xheli
