5.0 out of 5 stars I didn't think they could top Sunshine Barato. They did it!
Yup, they did it. They topped "Barato" big time, by creating something different from it. The sound is more mature and intimate, the instruments more varied and interesting. I'm so sorry I held off getting "III" under such false pretenses!

Note to the band's keyboardist: The Mellotron and acoustic piano flatter the band in a big big way!

3.0 out of 5 stars Different. Decent. Somewhat Depressing. Still Love The Mosquitos
Almost everything I love about the Mosquitos first two records is missing in this latest effort.

The first time I heard Sunshine Barato was on college radio in Austin TX. I bought the album the same day and fell in love with that music, especially Juju's voice. Sunshine Barato bursts love & warm vibes. I can hear waves in that music, I can feel the sand between...

5.0 out of 5 stars Their best sound to date., September 24, 2006

I have been listening to the mosquitos since their first album when I saw them open up for Air. I was charmed from the beginning. I have seen them live several times and I am always impressed. This album has a sound that has evolved into a mature relationship between these musicians. It has lot's of new surprises but maintains your favorite qualities. Each song is a pleasure to listen to.

I can hear waves in that music, I can feel the sand between my toes, feel the warmth of the sun on my face, holding hands with my girlfriend, we're laying down on big soft towels being lazy smiling and very very much in love...

Mosquitos III isn't upbeat like that; it's somber compared to their first 2 records. The quality of the recording is a step down from Sunshine as well IMO - III doesn't pop like Sunshine.

They brought in a few more musicians for III and the result is a crowd, as opposed to good company. It sounds to me like they're not sure what to be or where they're going musically.

That said, III is still better than most pop music out there, it beats 90 percent of mainstream FM radio.
