Book Description

July 1996
Forty-five million baby boomers will turn fifty over the next three years - and the generation that spawned the sexual revolution is feeling the strain: Flagging sexual interest ... painful intercourse ... erection problems ... or maybe everything works fine, but you lack a partner! Medical writer and lecturer Ruth S. Jacobowitz has traveled the country conducting in-depth discussion groups and interviews with men and women about their sexual concerns at midlife. Here she reveals how to keep the sexual sparks flying throughout midlife's changes and at any age, sharing the latest findings in endocrinology, urology, sexology, psychology, and geriatric medicine in this information-packed book. In an accessible, question-and-answer format that covers readers' real-life concerns, Ruth Jacobowitz outlines the pros and cons of the new testosterone therapy for women and what it can and cannot do to resolve sex problems, as well as alternative therapies that may help. Also included are frank discussions about extramarital affairs, mood swings, masturbation, hormone replacement therapies, safe sex tactics, gaining sexual energy through exercise, and communicating your sexual needs to your partner.

This review is from: 150 Most-Asked Questions About Midlife Sex, Love, and Intimacy: What Women and Their Partners Really Want to Know (Paperback)
Over the past 10 years when I have been out giving seminars on menopause and osteoporosis, and now on estrogen, women and men would come forward to ask me about the subjects they still perceive to be "taboo." Subjects came up about lack of libido, erectile dysfunction, sexual boredom in a long term relationship, masturbation, extra marital affairs, safe sex, safer sex, no sex----I could go on and on. And so in addition to the 35,000 questionnaires I had already used for my books on menopause and osteoporosis, I distributed another 6700 questionnaires about our midlife sex lives.

The responses were illuminating, astounding, helpful. My responders were open, honest, and clear in their desire to improve their intimate relationships. I interviewed couples, singles, both gay and straight individuals. I interviewed women and men of many ages and in many stages of life.

Further, I ran focus groups in my home where the information flowed freely as each person present was aware that no one in that group would repeat anything heard there. Those interviewees, those present in the focus groups are represented throughout the book. They are real people, whose occupations and locales have been changed greatly in order to protect their privacy.

I am very proud of this book and have received letters, calls, and e-mails from women and men all over the world who felt they had found their way on the path to quality relationships after reading the book.

I hope "150 Most-Asked Questions About Midlife Sex, Love, and Intimacy"

will help you and make you happy, too.
