1.0 out of 5 stars Sad
I wonder how many men and women have been scared away from even thinking about a relationship with God because of the inane prattle of Pat Robertson. As a Christian myself, Robertson embarrasses me. His blood and thunder god has the temperament of a five year old child and about as much judgement. Robertson continually dishes out his poison all the while blinking with...

Jon (Casselberry, FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Most Dangerous Man in America?: Pat Robertson and the Rise of the Christian Coalition (Paperback)
This book brought my worst fears about this sick freak to light. It exposes the hypocrisy, intolerance, rhetoric, and just plain evil inherent in this pathetic excuse for a human being.

Boston's book is well written, and every piece of evidence he provides against Robertson is properly cited. It plainly outlines his goals for America, which include the overturning of vital court descisions like Roe vs. Wade and the 1962 school prayer descision. His main goal, however, is turning this great and free land of ours into a fundamentalist theocracy where most of the freedoms that we take for granted would be nothing more than memories. Robertson has come frighteningly close to realizing these goals. With the political juggernaut that is the "Christian" Coalition, he has been able to become a very powerful behind-the-scenes figure for the GOP and has the abilites to make or break candidates at many levels. All it would take is one or two new radical right-wing justices on the Supreme Court and you can kiss the wall between church and state goodbye.

This man must be stopped. Whether he thinks he is a "Man of God" or not, his goals and views are downright dangerous to this nation and to every person living in it. Do you like the fact that your kids can go to school and not be forced to pray to a God they might not believe in? Do you like the fact you are allowed to practice any religion you see fit without fear of persecution? Do you women who have had abortions appreciate the fact that it was none of the goverment's business? I hope so. Because if this man gets into power, none of freedoms will exist anymore.

Read this book. It is informative, to the point, and peels back the facade of that smiling face which conceals one of the greatest threats to our way of life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Important Books Never Grow Old, March 10, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Most Dangerous Man in America?: Pat Robertson and the Rise of the Christian Coalition (Paperback)
Pat Robertson remains one of the most important figures in the Republican party. Because this is so, Robert Boston's expose of Robertson and his multifaceted empire is must reading for anyone who aspires to political literacy in the the U.S. It is a logical companion work to Frederick Clarkson's Eternal Hostility: The Struggle Between Theocracy and Democracy, which sets Robertson and his Christian Coalition in a wider context. Clarkson wrote the original expose of the Christian Coaltion in Church & State magazine, where Boston is an editor. Together thier work makes a powerful case that Robertson and the movement he epitomises is seriously erroding the consitutional separation of church and state. The result, they make clear, will be intereligious conflict as has never been seen on this continent.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Most Evil Man in America, July 27, 1998
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Most Dangerous Man in America?: Pat Robertson and the Rise of the Christian Coalition (Paperback)
This writing by Rob Boston provides a detailed account of the hypocrisy, distortion, and manipulation used by Pat Robertson and his associates in their effort to take control of America. An important book for all to read, it explains the deceptive tactics used by this group to shove their political agenda on America and the rest of the world.

Mr. Robertson has one clear goal for America: a theocratic, oppressive regime. Anyone who disagrees with his views is labeled in a variety of ways, including communist, liberal, anti- god, anti- family, etc. His followers take extreme, hateful positions against women's rights advocates, affirmative action, and public education.

It is shocking to think that there are so many people out there who support these views. There are some followers of the Christian Coalition who clearly understand their positions on the issues and support them anyway. I think this represents a very small percentage. The majority of the groups follower! s do not really understand what is going on here. They have not heard the reversals on issues, the hypocrisy, the outright lies that are told by Pat Robertson. They assume that a so called "man of God" cannot do wrong. These blind loyalists could be converted against Robertson if only they would seek out the truth. Robertson's record of deception speaks for itself.

Pat Robertsons MUST be stopped now! We can no longer sit back and remain apathetic and naive. This group represents a very real, very dangerous threat to personal liberty and the American Way.

What I would like to personally say to Mr. Robertson is this: the next time you are having thoughts about accusations of satanism, devil worship, and unholiness, stop and come to your senses. The real antichrist is the man in the mirror!

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Evil Man? Absolutely., November 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Most Dangerous Man in America?: Pat Robertson and the Rise of the Christian Coalition (Paperback)
Having spent most of my life in Virginia Beach, and having seen Pat Robertson himself dining at the most expensive restaurants in town on several occasions, I am fully aware of his hypocritical tactics at gaining political control of our nation. For the reviewer who commented about Pat's miraculous ability in "turning" the hurricane from Virginia Beach, I would also like to add Pat's comment regarding the gay-pride flags at Disney's Gay Days: "I wouldn't be waving those flags in God's face if I were you." Pat's claims are outrageous, his statements ridiculous, and his general outlook anti-humanity. This book is an absolute must-read for anyone wanting to know the truth about this greedy, self-serving "man of God".

4.0 out of 5 stars Should be required reading, January 26, 2000
This review is from: The Most Dangerous Man in America?: Pat Robertson and the Rise of the Christian Coalition (Paperback)
Boston's expose of Pat Robertson, his billion-dollar, multi-media empire and international business interests stands alone as an indictment of Robertson as an evangelist. That Robertson is actually a politician in clerical guise makes him all the more nefarious. Make no mistake: the Christian Coalition is waging a grass-roots war against common American citizens, charging that any who do not believe as they do (e.g., Fundamentalist Christian conservatives), are essentially enemies of the state. As we approach the Presidential elections this year, it becomes more evident the stranglehold this faction has on American politics. This book is a must-read for anyone who thinks they "know" what the Religious Right is after: it's a huge wake-up call. Robertson must be shown to the American public as the danger to freedom he truly is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Confirmed My Worst Fears..., January 7, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Most Dangerous Man in America?: Pat Robertson and the Rise of the Christian Coalition (Paperback)
This book has confirmed my worst fears about the likes of Pat Roberston and the "Christian Coalition". This book exposes the madness of Robertson, and his ploys and tactics to establish a theocratic nation where everyone and anyone who is not a "Christian" is the scum of the earth. While Robertson may appear to have good intentions and only wanting the best for all of us, he seems to have forgotten one crucial point: America is not-AND SHOULD NOT BE- a theocracy.

I have always had my doubts regarding these "Men of God", but really had no idea just how dangerous and clever they really are. Our constitutional rights are about to be lost forever. What Robertson really has in mind is to become President and turn us into a "Holy Nation". His plots and schemes are similiar to the Roman Catholic Church's "One-World Religion" plan, in which they want absolute and total control over all matters of faith and morals. Folks, after reading this one, you'll wonder how this guy can sleep at night. Dangerous or perhaps even crazy? YOU BET! Read it and shudder as to what may lie ahead. A solid 5 star rating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book. Finally someone who speaks the Troof!(c)(R)(TM), November 6, 1999

This review is from: The Most Dangerous Man in America?: Pat Robertson and the Rise of the Christian Coalition (Paperback)
Ol' Pat(as his friends like to call him, not really) is just about the biggest threat to whats left of Democracy in America today. His theocratic views teach that his twisted form of Christianity should be written into law and all others should be subject to the "laws of the old testiment" Well, the punishment for believing in "false Gods" in the OT is stoning, so I spose Ol' Pat would finally get a chance to show those mead swilling Pagans a thing or two! Christians! get this book! Find out all about the man who claims to represent you.. And read "New World Order" By pat himself to find out just how wacky this guy is!

I already knew for along time living in Va what a menace robertson was to society and the world. I have know people that worked for him in the cbn building and have heard some pretty strange things. This book brings out in the open all of the other insane rhetorical nonsense which seems to know no end with this man. I am not Christian nor hold any religious type beliefs. But believe me i certainly do no hold all Christians in the same light as this maniac. There needs to be an updated version of this book. He has continually strolled in la la land since.

5.0 out of 5 stars Accurate, February 20, 2006
By
Autumn Butterfly (Jefferson, Maryland USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Most Dangerous Man in America?: Pat Robertson and the Rise of the Christian Coalition (Paperback)
The author sites news reports, recordings of Robertson's public speeches and the written word of the Christian Coalition and it's various brother organizations in this well researched book. Clearly demonstrated is Robertson's back-and-forth style of commentary regarding the separation of church and state (the version the audience gets depends precisely upon the leanings of the audience itself), his tendency to make an outrageous statement then deny ever having said it (the Hugo Chavez remarks weren't covered in the book, but the research show that this type of comment from Robertson is not the exception, but the norm), and his questionable business dealings.

What is perhaps most frightening about him is the influence he wields within the republican party, which could be devastating to women's health and the religious freedoms of non-christians should said influence continue unchecked.

The proof is there for all to see. Robertson may wish to pass it all off as a smear campaign generated by the 'liberal media', but his words and actions speak for themselves.

Give an idiot enough rope and he'll hang himself eventually. Robertson has created his own noose with his ridiculous claims about his divine influence and his repeated lies and obviously outrageous behavior. One has to wonder why his god would allow him to set such a deplorable example for his people for so long, when it's clear to anyone who bothers to observe such statements and behaviors that the stool should have been kicked out from under him years ago.

What a shame that so many people blindly follow his teachings and so many non-christians think his views represent those of all christians. He gives a very bad name to the beliefs and people he claims to represent.

5.0 out of 5 stars In Response to Thomas Tolbert, January 16, 2006
This review is from: The Most Dangerous Man in America?: Pat Robertson and the Rise of the Christian Coalition (Paperback)
It is unbelievably ignorant of you to even suggest that Pat Robertson is in any way acting in a manner that is equivalent to the way the Jesus himself did in his time. Jesus taught compassion, equality and most important of all, love. These are the fundamental values in all of jesus' teachings. You are blinding yourself to reality, or rather allowing yourself to be blinded by beleiving that Robertson speaks the truth. Robertson is a blatant example of how the subconsciously existent socially opressive system contorts the fabric of justice and peace in America and the world today. Robertson CONTORTS the words of god to influence people in to buying into his hypocracy. God loves all, he is aware of everything, he isnt troubled by such trivial divisions in our world, atheists, muslims, hindus, buddhists, does it really matter? I myself am a hindu, but I believe that all religions, even with their differences lead to the same truth. This is why I support this book. This book does not breed hate towards Pat Robertson, it raises awareness. Pat Robertson in no way shape or form represents god.
