Book Description

December 1, 2008

The 150 Most Effective Ways to Boost Your Energy shows anyone how to get more energy out of their body—naturally. Nationally known health expert Jonny Bowden presents small changes anyone can implement up front for big energy—such as what to eat for all-day endurance, when to time a workout for the biggest brain boost, or how working with (or against) natural light cycles can make your sleep restorative or slump-inducing. Energy starts with attitude—you'll learn how to “think” like a high-energy person and use breathing techniques, meditation, and exercise to bust stress, beat fatigue, and boost stamina. You'll also learn how physical factors such as toxins, eating patterns, and nutritional deficiencies can sabotage strength—and how they can be corrected with proper diet and supplements. The 150 Most Effective Ways to Boost Your Energy gives you a complete program to go from exhausted to energized.

2.0 out of 5 stars Kind of a Hack Job July 26, 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I enjoyed the author's other books, but this one disappoints. What is mostly lacking is a critical eye to what's included--you get the sense that in order to reach his 150 item quota, the author's included a lot of dubious treatments and approaches without researching them very carefully (e.g., weight lifting supplements that have been shown to have serious side effectss (even the guys on "t-nation" stopped taking them), hormone replacement for men, the "subluxation" concept that used to be prevalent in chiropractic medicine, but has been abandoned by most ethical chiropracters).

And while the breezy writing style is still sometimes fun, there's a bit too much name dropping (and promotion of friends' businesses). Overall, what comes through is a rushed effort to crank out another best-seller.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Human Energy Bible! February 17, 2009
Format:Paperback
To go through life full of energy, with an optimistic mindset is something we all want. This book by Dr Jonny Bowden gives you 150 strategies to get more energy into your life. I enjoyed several of Bowden's other books because they are well written, in language you and I can understand, he makes clear why certain foods, supplements, etc will or will not work for you. This certainly applies to this book. Above all his books are fun to read because he has a nice sense of humour. The book is printed on durable paper, has some nice illustrations and an excellent lay-out.
The strategies included in the book include foods and supplements you can take, this information takes up about half of the book. There are shorter sections about exercise, improving your sleep, organizing your living space and how to detoxify your body.
Most of the information has a basis in science, with some small excursions into subjects like acupuncture and Feng Shui. All in all this is an excellent and up-to-date guide for anyone interested in health and fitness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive with great tips July 22, 2009
Format:Paperback
This review will be in list-form just like the book
-Contains vivid quality photography, which is an important component for me in such health books
-The numbered sections (150) allows easy skimming and fast reading
- each effective energy booster contains detailed information backed up with medical findings and written in a fluid conversational manner that is enjoyable to read.
-The tips can be done immediately. Bowden offers specifics on activities and for what kinds of foods to eat, and where to get them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Take one giant step back...and think. July 27, 2009
Format:Paperback
Doctor Jonny gives sage advise, and a myriad of Jonny fans write puff pieces to his eternal wisdom and energetic good looks.

The advise Jonny gives is wildly contradicting in spots. (Why do none of the other reviewers pick this up?!) He pumps out advice on nutritional supplementation as quickly as a late night exercise program pumps out energetic promises. The advice may be good in places but this type of "150 ways to boost energy" is geared for an author to overstep science and understep where caution for certain individuals are concerned.

True, this is true for many other authors too, but there is little reason (besides money) for Jonny Bowden to write such a book at this point. It makes his earlier works suspect. Or so it seems to me.

Should the book be given two stars for the bits of advice which are good and well written? I think that most people will read this and glaze over reading how THIS nutritional supplement will do x for you.... and how "some new research suggests" that this other nutritional supplement will do the same thing... and how "there is more evidence" that XYZ will do these things... and (times 150).

Most simply won't have the background to know what is a good approach to take.

Books like this make a lot of money, and get people in trouble as they experiment. People then go to their doctors with "ringing in their ears," with irritable bowel and worse, with headaches that won't stop... and these self-experimenters admit to trying this new regimen of high dosage mega-cure-all pills and potions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Boost Your Energy by Jonny Bowden January 27, 2009
Format:Paperback
This is one of the best books I have read on over all fitness and
increasing your energy level. Easy to read, good information,
makes a lot of sense. We some how think we can abuse our bodies,
eat junk food, don't exercise, and still think we should feel energized
all the time. This book explains how you can feel good and live
a healthy, energized life.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was doing everythink wrong! February 4, 2009
Format:Paperback
I'm on the run so the one thing I have to have is Energy. Even though I'm in the fitness world, I still like my ice cream from time to time. Jonny's book made me look at things in a different light and pay attention to why I was getting tired and not able to function all day. Love this book and it's a great one to keep with me to keep me focused!
