This is a strange CD. One half shows the ability of Atkins to pick one single note and hold you with it. The "popular" pieces of the first half are "music for everyone." The second half shows Chet Atkins at his mellow best although the saxaphone in some of these pieces forms a remarkable counterpoint. If it only contained St Louis Blues (a very early Atkins recording) that piece could have formed a perfect bridge between the Most Popular Guitar and Down Home. If you're one of the unfortunates with a deprived childhood and have never heard!! Chet Atkins, this is the CD for you.

Listen to this CD carefully. Even after all these years and all the great guitarists who have followed, Chet Atkins is still the best. If you are 50 yrs. old or older, this CD will bring back memories. If you have never heard Chet pick before, it will make you appreciate true artistry. Turn down the lites and listen with someone special.

Down Home features Chet and friends playing the type of music you would image them playing on the back porch. It is laid back country picking at it's best. I first bought it on mono LP over 30 years ago and it is great to here it in CD quality sound. To get the other LP thrown in with it is a bonus!

This is Chet playing a little different type of music than you normally hear. About half the CD is Jazzy. Of course it's Chet all the way. It's just wonderful.
