5.0 out of 5 stars a marvelous collection of hits and covers
Culled from three other CDs, this compilation has a mix of live and studio recordings, with 10 of the 16 from the "2 in 1" CD "Live in Concert/All of Me", 3 from ""Don't You Love Me Anymore ?" and 3 from "You and Your Lover", all from the 1980s.
Live audience recordings are an up-tempo "Release Me" along with the wonderful Lionel Richie "Still", and a rousing "After...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the real thing!
This CD has the right titles, however the orchestration and the back-up are absolutely atrocious. Also at times Humperdink sounds like Willy Nelson, there is none of that warm vibration that you would expect. The collection of songs is good, some of the execution is decent, but the overall quality of the recording is absolutely below par. Buy Humperdink, but not this...

I am disappointed with my purchase. Didn't pay attention (small prints) to the album description when I bought this in HMV store. Sound quality is poor. Three of my favourite songs (Release Me, Still, and After the Lovin') were recorded live.

2.0 out of 5 stars Inferior live recordings mixed with studio covers, February 2, 2006

I thought this quality of recorning to be available only through bootleg - not from a major like Sony. With some of the audience background sound having better clarity than the artist (Release Me) (After The Lovin'), I believe this disk would sound better when played through a boombox priced under $35.

Live audience recordings are an up-tempo "Release Me" along with the wonderful Lionel Richie "Still", and a rousing "After the Lovin'", and I really like the '50s sounding "Don't You Love Me Anymore ?", but my favorites perhaps are the very touching "Beautiful Baby", and the gentle "Maybe This Time".

Some of the re-recordings of Engelbert's hits have fresh interpretations, and are fabulous; his voice is superb, and each song has beauty, emotion and artistry, and if you're not expecting the lush arrangements of the originals, but like to hear the more mature Engelbert singing them, you will love this album...which is perhaps to be enjoyed more by his fans than those not so familiar with his music, who maybe will prefer the polish of an all-studio recorded CD.

The booklet insert has liner notes and recording info, and I find the cover art fascinating. Painted by Paul Micich, who is an excellent illustrator of children's books (as well as a musician), it is a terrific portrait, with its very '70s outfit, and many details, like the horse buckle...what I wouldn't give for the original !

Total playing time is 52'44.

Engelbert has a remarkable way of making you believe he is singing only to you, with his unique style and unmistakable voice, he can sing anything from Country to Opera. If Romance is what you want, this CD is the one to get.

5.0 out of 5 stars 16 OF ENGELBERT'S BEST!, March 13, 2000
This review is from: 16 Most Requested Songs (Audio CD)
Naturally, "Release Me" and other familiar songs are grouped together to make up this CD. One of the outstanding songs on this CD is MAYBE THIS TIME! This is one of the most beautiful songs and guess who can really sing it - that's right, our ENGE...He sings this song with such meaning that it really moves you. Also in this collection is a song DON'T YOU LOVE ME ANYMORE - an upbeat tempo styling of his that is great! This collection of tunes is a welcome to your present CD'S...Listen and enjoy...

1.0 out of 5 stars Lies! Lies!, March 6, 2011
This review is from: 16 Most Requested Songs (Audio CD)
I haven't even listened to it yet, but I'm giving it one star because there is no indication on the cover that these are cheap knock-offs and live versions. That's outright fraud.

2.0 out of 5 stars Big Disappointment, February 13, 2008

amazonqueen "amazonqueen" (Nashville, TN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 16 Most Requested Songs (Audio CD)
This collection consists of live versions from later in Humperdinck's career, and cheesy, souped-up studio re-workings of his earlier hits. These are not the versions you grew up listening to. The cover itself is deceitful. It shows him as a much younger man that what he was when these versions were recorded. Had they put a more chronologically accurate picture on the cover, it might have helped many people to avoid purchasing a CD that is not what it appears to be. This is truly false advertising for the sake of profits. If you're an Englebert Humperdinck aficionado, and already have the original recordings of all his hits, you may appreciate these alternate versions. If you're like me, and are looking to include a good "best of" of Engelbert Humperdinck's music (the way you remember it) in your collection, search elsewhere.

This cd brought back memories from a simpler time and I really enjoyed going back. Engelbert Humperdinck sure knows how to sing romance. I love the song "After the Loving". I didn't recognize all the songs, but they are all wonderful.
