Good introduction,

Mahalia Jackson is also one of those artists, who I love, even if I don't like their musical style too much. But Mahalias blend of gospel, blues and rock is irresistable. Her powerful, honest, authentic interpretation is marvellous, her voice is absolutely stunning and amazingly emotional. Combined with her exceptional personality I think her work is absolutely brilliant, and disregarding any musical styles deserves my deepest respect. I have no words to describe this wonderful music. But I can easily recommend Mahalia Jackson for any music fan who wants to hear music which enters your ears and settles in your heart. And I think this CD features a good mix of her work, and is therefore a very good introduction. But feel free to check any of her CDs, for she has much more to offer (Newport 56 live, etc.)! If you're young and you don't like this music today, keep her in mind. Perhaps in a few years you will never like to miss her again. It took me 20 years to rediscover her!

Mahaila was truley a gifted singer who sang from deep in the gut of her soul. I really enjoyed her song trouble in this world. A must for the gospel fan.

Mahalia sings like no other, her genre just happens to be Gospel. A must have album for your Mahalia Jackson collection.

Tons of Mahalia Jackson around. I picked this one because it contains all her greatest songs and has a terrific story about Mahalia in the CD cover. A cross cultural reference: Mahalia means "Highest One or Highest Lord" in Sanskrit, the ancient language of India.

This is a great CD! It will have you bobbing your head and patting your foot as Mahalia put her heart and soul into singing the old time favorites. Even my 1 year old enjoys listening!
