Best of the Bunch!,

This CD is the best of the bunch of Mitch Miller's recordings. Many old favorites that will have your kids wondering how you know the words. I grew up watching "Sing along with Mitch" back in the old days when parents chose the TV shows and kids could watch or go read. Everybody sang along (5 kids, 2 parents) and enjoyed the show. Remember the "fuss" when Mitch introduced Leslie Uggams the first time? America was shocked that an actual black girl was on prime time: however, everyone was soon enchanted with her and color ceased to matter. Too bad she is not on this CD.

This is a fun CD for those of us who grew up watching and hearing the Sing Along with Mitch television show, but the songs and arrangements make this a fun album for kids or adults who never even heard of it. A good selection of tunes, including five fun medleys. My only complaint -- NO lyric sheet (as there are with some other Mitch Miller CDs) -- how are we supposed to "sing along"? Future editions should include a lyric sheet. Otherwise perfect and perfectly fun.

I guess you can't go wrong with a collection of the most popular songs by a popular artist. This is a good selection of songs, and they are intelligently organized, with the 4 marching songs placed together at the start of the collection. "Side By Side" ("Oh we ain't got a barrel of money, maybe we're ragged and funny...") is an especially beautiful song (written by Harry Woods), beautifully done, with very optimistic lyrics. The best thing about this album is it contains some Mitch Miller songs that are not available elsewhere on CD, such as "Side By Side" and "March From The River Kwai." The worst thing is that there are so many good Mitch Miller songs that are not available on CD that there is pressure on a collection like this to include more than just 16 songs. For example, a few out-of-print Mitch songs I'd really like to get on CD are "California," "Avalon," "You Must've Been A Beautiful Baby," "Happy Days Are Here Again," "Moonlight Bay," and "I've Got Rings On My Fingers."
