Pearl is one of the coolest singers around. I am in my seventies and was a show biz artist in my earlier days. Pearl, was a shining example, to me, of how to present a song -- relaxed and enjoying every word and line. Her off-hand patter --timing, etc. was, in my opinion, the finest in the business. The tempo could be fast or slow -- she could handle both so-o-o well. This particular CD's songs -- Saturday Night Fish Fry and The Hucklebuck -- was what attracted me to purchase it. Needless to say, I was not disappointed with the music selections. The lady is a class act.

I love this CD; it gives the Pearl Bailey that I grew up with on grainy and crackly old records a whole new sound. I haven't listened to Bailey much in a long time, and this CD is really refreshing, although the clarity in her voice takes some getting used to! I recommend it to anyone who loves bluesy jazz from the past, sung by a sultry, yet playful pro.

I had heard of her for years. The name kept popping up here and there. Finally, I got around to listening for myself. I can tell you this: If you don't know how fascinating and important the contribution that Pearl Bailey gave to music, BUY THIS!

This lady was a one person entertainer. Her style was unique. She was top drawer I believe they said back then. Very smooth and enjoyable.
