Music for the heart and soul,

Robert Goulet ranks just below Judy Garland, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Dean Martin in my personal list of most outstanding vocalists. Featuring 16 moving songs, this collection really showcases Goulet's musical grace, rich voice, and perfect delivery. He makes the lyrics come alive when he sings, and his exquisite voice penetrates your heart, mind, and spirit. Goulet's trademark is the slow, emotional ballad, and this collection features one great one after another (e.g., If Ever I Would Leave You, Who Do I Turn To, Call Me Irresponsible). I could list any number of reasons why I love each song on this album, but I will just say a word or two about my favorites. Sunrise Sunset, a particularly poignant song about growing older, is sure to touch even the hardest of hearts. If I Ruled the World is both beautiful and inspirational. She Touched Me, with its comparatively fast tempo, is uplifting and filled with energy. What Kind of Fool Am I and What Now My Love are two of my favorite songs of all time, and I was very happy to hear Goulet deliver exquisite versions of these timeless classics. Perhaps my favorite track is The Impossible Dream, which is bursting at the seams with energy, optimism, and invigorating excitement. Most of these songs revolve around the theme of love, yet there is a lot of variety here in terms of tempo and style. There is also what I would call an Italian influence on many of these songs, always bringing to my mind the image of Goulet as a singing gondolier lazily guiding his craft through the canals of Venice. You listen to Goulet with your heart as well as your ears.

Robert Goulet is the most talented singer on the planet. There is not one song I could not listen to on this CD. I know some people buy CDs just to hear one or two songs, with this cd, its not the case. This CD is without a doubt the best! I could listen to it for hours on end. I recommend you buy this CD, you will NOT regret it.

Robert Goulet is a master interpreter of music for the Broadway stage, and this fantastic CD has a terrific sampling of show tunes, as well as songs written for film, and some lovely standards. Goulet's first "big break" came after a few seasons of Canadian variety TV, when he was chosen as "Lancelot" in the 1960 Lerner & Loewe "Camelot", starring alongside Richard Burton and Julie Andrews. Here in the first track is his signature song from that musical, the beautiful "If Ever I would Leave You".
Goulet's rich, resonant baritone and unique style are a joy to hear, and something one notices immediately is his flawless enunciation, which applies to his Italian as well, in "My Love, Forgive Me". After decades of hearing singers sink into a mire of slurred speech, it is very refreshing, and adds so much to the depth of emotion Goulet brings to a song. "Sunrise, Sunset" is a good example, where the lyrics take on new meaning in Goulet's exquisite and incredibly moving interpretation. I love romantic melodies, and "Take Me in Your Arms" is another big favorite, as well as the fantastic rendition of "Call Me Irresponsible". The final track is an inspiring and powerful ending, with "The Impossible Dream" from "Man of La Mancha", a show Goulet has starred in with great success. Great songs, sumptuous singing, and Goulet's consummate artistry make this disc eligible for desert isle status, unless you'd rather get the 3 disc import "Collection", which has all these tracks and 44 more to enjoy. The foldout insert has minimal liner notes, and no composer/lyricist credits on the song list (this is a major omission in my book). The sound is very good and total playing time is 49'01.
