Music for the heart and soul,

Robert Goulet ranks just below Judy Garland, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Dean Martin in my personal list of most outstanding vocalists. Featuring 16 moving songs, this collection really showcases Goulet's musical grace, rich voice, and perfect delivery. He makes the lyrics come alive when he sings, and his exquisite voice penetrates your heart, mind, and spirit. Goulet's trademark is the slow, emotional ballad, and this collection features one great one after another (e.g., If Ever I Would Leave You, Who Do I Turn To, Call Me Irresponsible). I could list any number of reasons why I love each song on this album, but I will just say a word or two about my favorites. Sunrise Sunset, a particularly poignant song about growing older, is sure to touch even the hardest of hearts. If I Ruled the World is both beautiful and inspirational. She Touched Me, with its comparatively fast tempo, is uplifting and filled with energy. What Kind of Fool Am I and What Now My Love are two of my favorite songs of all time, and I was very happy to hear Goulet deliver exquisite versions of these timeless classics. Perhaps my favorite track is The Impossible Dream, which is bursting at the seams with energy, optimism, and invigorating excitement. Most of these songs revolve around the theme of love, yet there is a lot of variety here in terms of tempo and style. There is also what I would call an Italian influence on many of these songs, always bringing to my mind the image of Goulet as a singing gondolier lazily guiding his craft through the canals of Venice. You listen to Goulet with your heart as well as your ears.

Robert Goulet is the most talented singer on the planet. There is not one song I could not listen to on this CD. I know some people buy CDs just to hear one or two songs, with this cd, its not the case. This CD is without a doubt the best! I could listen to it for hours on end. I recommend you buy this CD, you will NOT regret it.

Robert Goulet is a master interpreter of music for the Broadway stage, and this fantastic CD has a terrific sampling of show tunes, as well as songs written for film, and some lovely standards. Goulet's first "big break" came after a few seasons of Canadian variety TV, when he was chosen as "Lancelot" in the 1960 Lerner & Loewe "Camelot", starring alongside Richard Burton and Julie Andrews. Here in the first track is his signature song from that musical, the beautiful "If Ever I would Leave You".
Goulet's rich, resonant baritone and unique style are a joy to hear, and something one notices immediately is his flawless enunciation, which applies to his Italian as well, in "My Love, Forgive Me". After decades of hearing singers sink into a mire of slurred speech, it is very refreshing, and adds so much to the depth of emotion Goulet brings to a song. "Sunrise, Sunset" is a good example, where the lyrics take on new meaning in Goulet's exquisite and incredibly moving interpretation. I love romantic melodies, and "Take Me in Your Arms" is another big favorite, as well as the fantastic rendition of "Call Me Irresponsible". The final track is an inspiring and powerful ending, with "The Impossible Dream" from "Man of La Mancha", a show Goulet has starred in with great success. Great songs, sumptuous singing, and Goulet's consummate artistry make this disc eligible for desert isle status, unless you'd rather get the 3 disc import "Collection", which has all these tracks and 44 more to enjoy. The foldout insert has minimal liner notes, and no composer/lyricist credits on the song list (this is a major omission in my book). The sound is very good and total playing time is 49'01.

Robert Goulet's strong voice, diction and panache touched and thrilled his audiences--BRAVO, ROBERT GOULET !!!,

Robert Goulet enjoyed a career spanning several decades. He always pleased his adoring audiences; Robert's strong voice, excellent diction and passionate deliveries made him an icon of the entertainment world. This CD showcases Robert's talents as a singer; and every moment of this CD proves that Robert Goulet's star still shines as brightly as it ever did.
The CD track set begins with one of Goulet's signature songs," If Ever I Would Leave You." Robert delivers this with panache, sensitivity and a certain type of masculine warmth that will prove hard for his successors to match. The musical arrangement makes good use of the strings, too. Beautiful! "What Now My Love" follows; Robert performs this with a great deal of sensitivity that touches me greatly. The strings and drums enhance the beauty of "What Now My Love," too. Other gems on this CD--which, quite honesty--would probably mean the entire album--include the charming delivery Robert gives for "Real Live Girl." The melody and tempo work well as Bobby sings of a young man's delight with his first true love. "On A Clear Day (You Can See Forever)" comes from the Vincente Minnelli movie of the same name; Robert Goulet delivers this without singing a single superfluous note. The backup chorus harmonizes very well, too. Love it! "Call Me Irresponsible" gets the royal treatment from Robert Goulet; he sings this to perfection. His excellent diction strengthens his delivery; and the strings work well with the arrangement, too. Goulet's interpretation of the classic ballad "What Kind Of Fool Am I" shines brightly; he slows down the tempo to make this a very soft, sensitive number. Despite his strong voice, Robert's delivery hints at a certain vulnerability on "What Kind Of Fool Am I." I think you will like this number very much. "For Once In My Life" celebrates the joys of finally being in true love for the very first time; the horns and strings make this number all the more touching and beautiful. "She Touched Me" lets Bobby sing of the happiness he feels when he finally knows the woman he loves reciprocates his love. The arrangement has a big band flavor to it that bolsters the joyousness of "She Touched Me." The CD ends with another song Robert Goulet often performed, "The Impossible Dream." Like almost all of Bobby's songs, "The Impossible Dream" retains its classic, beautiful quality despite the passage of time. Goulet, with his exceptionally strong masculine voice, delivers THE perfect rendition of "The Impossible Dream." In addition, because the song explores a man's quest to always go forward in search of fulfilling his dreams, "The Impossible Dream" makes a strong ending for this CD. Excellent! The liner notes have an informative essay by Brian Gari; and Larry Keyes at CBS Records Studios did a great job of remastering of these ballads. I highly recommend this CD for any Robert Goulet fan; and people who enjoy classic pop vocals will love this CD, too. Robert Goulet will always remain one of the greatest entertainers we ever knew; and we are all better off because of his invaluable contributions to the arts.

A CLASSICAL SINGER,

Gifted with a wonderful voice, Robert Goulet has the quality of a classical singer. This CD can be an excellent introduction for those who wish to discover a true and authentic singer, not a fashion-conscious pussycat singer with a contrived voice but a real, masculine and handsome singer with an incredible bass and full of appeal. Let yourself go and be charmed by this singing mandrake!

GOOD GOULET,
By
This review is from: 16 Most Requested Songs (Audio CD)
Goulet has a rich baritone voice and the sixteen selections show how he managed to become such a superstar during a time of several other worthier singers. However, if you like Goulet, you'll love this collection, as it has sixteen very beautiful songs. I find Goulet's deliveries, however, rather dispassionate, and I don't think he tried to branch out and show the range he could have possibly had.

You have to be a Robert Goulet fan,
This review is from: 16 Most Requested Songs (Audio CD)
Having been a fan of Robert Goulet's since he played Lancelot in the broadway production of Camelot, I was looking for a recording of "If ever I would leave you" from that show. This album, with 16 of his most popular songs, was the answer for me. Some of the arrangements have a very "sixties" sound, and may not have withstood the test of time, but all the selections do showcase his rich, powerful voice. After listening to this album, he is still one of my all-time favorite singers.

This is a wonderful CD, but I wish it were longer. Every song on it is relaxing and soothing. Robert Goulet's voice is very rich and smooth. When I'm working in my bathroom at night as my photography darkroom, I can put this CD on repeat and it's excellent. I can listen to it for hours.
