You don't have to be of the Mormon faith to enjoy the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra's annual Christmas programs. Each year they are getting more spectacular, and this, 'The Most Wonderful Time of the Year' is the latest collection of Christmas carols and popular Christmas songs, beautifully sung by the one and only 9-Grammy Award Winner, Natalie Cole.

The Salt Lake City venue would have to be the largest concert hall in the world, (the stage proscenium is about 140 ft wide by 72 ft high) and with a choir of some 375 voices, a 100+ symphony orchestra, 200 dancers and bell ringers and an audience of 21,000 - that's right 21,000 appreciative Christmas concert-goers, this has to be the most spectacular Christmas offering I've seen in years. This is truly a magical feast for the eyes and the ears!

Beautifully directed, you'll soar above the audience, the choir, the orchestra and dancers on extended camera cranes, and with a total of some 11 cameras they capture the true Spirit of Christmas. The quality and clarity of the Technicolorful 16x9 anamorphic picture will astound you, and the 5.1 surround sound will engulf you into the heart of this spectacular venue.

Many of the stunning arrangements are by conductor Mack Wilberg, beautifully played by the orchestra that will send chills up your spine. And just wait until you hear the vast string section - wow! Natalie Cole sings 'It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year' - the heart rendering 'Grown Up Christmas List' by David Foster - 'Caroling, Caroling' - 'The Christmas Song' ('Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire') - 'Hark! The Herald Angels Sing' and 'The Holly and the Ivy.

Have always liked the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Especially important nowadays when Christians seem to be under attack. Good to hear these people who are not ashamed to step out and praise God.
The only problem I have is that some of the songs were a bit low in tempo.
All in all excellent; would recommend it.

I don't have much to add to the previous review - this is a magnificent concert featuring the great Natalie Cole and "America's Choir," the great Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I also own this on CD. The Choir is always a treat to hear, but particularly at Christmas time, and when teamed with a performer like Natalie, the results are fantastic!

While this concert was excellent, teen pop stars and lounge singers need not apply. Both Archuleta and Natalie Cole are outstanding performers, as long as they are not dealing with something like the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square. The free concerts are performed in one of the largest venues (if not the largest) in the world, and as other artists have said, it is intimidating and at the same time, surprisingly intimate. But they are also artists with voices that can be heard in any setting. Natalie Cole, like her legendary father, is a lounge singer at heart, best heard in small venues with piano or small backup group for her songs and talent.

As such, this was one of the lessor concerts in recent years, with much better performances turned in by artists who have a strong classical vocal repertoire.

Regardless, if you are collecting the annual concerts, this is still a valuable addition to Tabernacle Choir Christmas concerts.

Of all the concerts in this series this was the best. It had something for everyone. The music, the costumes, the dance. All were done to perfection. And how could one not fall in love with Natalie Cole. She makes you feel like you know her in a very personal way. Her dad must look down from heaven with such pride. And of course it would be remis of me not to mention David McCullough. He spoke of his wife and you could just feel the love they have for each other. Something you see so little of these days. God bless them both. Also his choice of music and pictures and the songs were perfict. He tells some things alot of people I'm sure didn't know. Along with the choir and orchestra of which are always top notch and of course David McCullough's comintary it made for a warm and wonderful evening.

Morman Tabernacle Christmas specials are always excellent. Natalie Cole [ daughter of the great Nat King Cole] did an excellent job in all of her songs. David McCullough was excellent also. I am very pleased with this dvd. Thank you from David L.

We love the Mormon Tabernacle choir around here. They always have something impresssive to perform. This concert is no exception. This, along with other past performances on DVD are my young kids' (6,5,&2) go-to video on Sunday.
