Book Description

LOOKING FOR A HERO?

Society has collapsed, and the Earth has turned weird.

Ball lightning wanders the countryside, looking for people to fry. Whole towns of insane residents burn books and the people who read them, hoping to erase the past. The mounted military rides llamas. Nymphs, sprites, and other once-imaginary creatures have started popping into existence.

Yup. Really weird.

The survivors of Last War know that if humanity is ever going to regain its former glory, they need a champion. A person of great power and even greater leadership skills. Someone brave. Someone bold. Someone willing to embrace a dangerous, glorious destiny.

Instead, they get Steffan McFessel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good read! March 10, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I approached this book with a small amount of skepticism, as sci-fi/fantasy is not a genre I lean towards. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was an interesting mix of sharp humor, action adventure and fantasy that was quite engrossing. I would highly recommend to fans and non-fans of the genre alike.

My only complaint? I think we need a sequel. Soon.

Just one look at the chapter headings & you know you are in for a ride with this volume from Mr Wenskus & Donnelly.

Well, the text is well-written & tight but there is also richness to it that you find in good fantasy literature. The dialogue is punchy & impressive - reminding me of Terry Pratchett.

I don't want to give too much away in terms of the plot as I think this book is best approached as I did, with no firm idea of what's going to happen. This volume is not conventional & it doesn't fit neatly into a category.

What I will say is that there is major trouble about in the countryside, some really, really happenings & creatures, plus a champion who really doesn't seem to fit the description.

It's weird, wonderful, there's stacks of humour as well as real suspense and drama.

I wanted a change & I sure got it. I look forward to the next volume which I know is planned. For now, Mr Wenskus & Mr Donnelly - stop playing with my reality - at least for while!!
