Editorial Reviews

After the flamboyance very American in my flesh (1997), Patricia Kaas is back with an album (the fifth in 12 years) to the singular beauty, probably more true to its sensitivity and its discreet charm than its predecessor. Dressed in a pocket sepia curiously recalling the Scenes of Life (1990), entirely produced, written and arranged by Pascal Obispo, The password is any strength in the consistency that comes from security selection, suggestive of universal themes time that ran away, the strangeness of femininity, dreams dashed or inaccessible and difficult to love. Patricia Kaas has customize his weary voice, almost cynical, bringing, for transparency, all his emotion and maturity of young thirties. If the faithful Goldman offered him a position on two titles ( "A girl from the East" and "Songs beginning", which seem to echo "From Germany" and "Enter Light"), other texts are signed Zazie, Goleman, and Florence, as many authors who know, subtle question. --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!!!, February 22, 2003
This review is from: Le Mot De Passe (Audio CD)
I should say that in my opinion this cd is great, but that is rather obvious due to the fact that I've given "Le mot de passe" 5 stars.

The songs are fantastic, and Patricia's voice is outstanding... On the whole, this cd is something you thoroughly enjoy, an experience you cannot miss. What is more, if french is not your mother tongue (and that is my case), this cd is also a very useful tool to help you cope with the difficult process of learning a new language. While listening to it, you get accustomed to the way in which words are pronunced, and to the rhythm that characterises that language.

I discovered this cd by sheer luck: I borrowed it from my french teacher, after she recommended it quite strongly to us. I loved it, so I tried to buy it, but was unable to do so in Argentina. I know Patricia Kaas is very famous in France, but she isn't widely known in my country. What to do? I really wanted it, so I decided to order it in Amazon.com...It was quite expensive, but I don't regret it!

4.0 out of 5 stars relaxing, April 23, 2006
This review is from: Le Mot De Passe (Audio CD)
Overall, a good album. I didn't find any of the songs particulary exciting. Some albums have that one song you cannot get enough of? This one doesn't, not for me. That is why not the 5th etoile. I guess you could say the talent was equally divided to all tracks and not to just one song, like other artists tend to do.
A couple songs were different.

Ma libertie contre la tienne - Good song, good yet subtile sound effects, the ending of the song is excellent.

Une femme comme d'autre - Good, but except for the chorus, the song almost sounds like she is making it up as she goes along. Not that it is bad, but it sound just a bit off beat.

Si tu r?ves - If I were to pick a favorite, this would perhaps be it.

The Cd has a really nice cover, the inlay booklet includes the lyrics and photos of Patricia. Lyrics are helpful if you study French language like I do. The singing is slow and relaxed.
I have yet to hear all her releases, so I can't recommend this above all the others, but this one is better than "Dans ma chair", where all the writing talent was spent on two songs.

4.0 out of 5 stars An album of beautiful music, but very different for PK, June 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Le Mot De Passe (Audio CD)
As a Kaas fan in love with her last studio release ("Dans Ma Chair,") it's difficult to judge this disc as a separate entity, but this is an album of beautiful music by an artist of stunning talent. It plays almost like a soundtrack for a magnificent dramatic work - there is a cohesiveness throughout, a dramatic intensity that is rare in contemporary music. Its melodies are more subdued, and perhaps less memorable, than those on "Dans Ma Chair" such as "Les Lignes de nos Mains," "L'Amour Devant La Mer" and "Quand J'ai Peur de Tout." But this is a different style of album than the preceding - there is a more sweeping, orchestral production over compositions that are generally mellower. To draw an analogy to romance, this album is something that builds over time, as contrasted with the "love at first sight (note?)" of "Dans Ma Chair." I think America's celebrated "Divas" are quite fortunate that Patricia Kaas has reportedly put off plans to break into the American market with an English-language disc - they'd be quickly forgotten...*** Discovering Patricia's music is like discovering treasure, or a Howard Roark building in Rand's novel "The Fountainhead," art miles above the blandness - or outright ugliness - of contemporary (American) culture. Another "can't go wrong" disc.
