Motel Lovers: Southern Soul from the Chitlin Circuit,
This review is from: Motel Lovers: Southern Soul from the Chitlin Circuit (Audio CD)
My father was from arkansas and when I was a kid this is the sounds around our house late at night, from 45's LP's, back in the 60's and 70's.
After hearing the review on NPR it was a must have. In the morning I'm headed to arkansas seeking those clubs back in the woods that host these artists and thier music. Its sad that this is an import. After years of hearing radio's pop/rap/R&R music, I feel a need to take part and understand where they all came from. see you on the circuit.

This review is from: Motel Lovers: Southern Soul from the Chitlin Circuit (Audio CD)
This interesting compilation of contemporary Southern Soul features such giants as Denise LaSalle, Sir Charles Jones, Barbara Carr, Peggy Scott Adams, Willie Clayton, Marvin Sease, Floyd Taylor, Mel Waiters and others interpreting torrid tales of forbidden love, lust and desire that never lost their core audience outside of the South and certain areas of the Midwest. While some may say that the songs' lyrical content is the musical equivalent of what is seen on the Jerry Springer or Ricki Lake shows the truth is that virtually all of the singers heard here are truly GREAT R&B singers who could put to shame the current glut of no-talents whose "music" gets constantly played on maionstream Urban radio. Yes, the lyrics ARE raunchy and may make some people cringe but all are filled with a raw, down-home, brutal honesty that is absent from most of the music heard on mainstream radio these days. All tracks feature superb sound quality and the booklet features an authoritative, in-depth essay with a mini-biography of all the artists on this anthology. Enjoy!
