A Rock/Gospel Revival Not To Be Missed., September 3, 2003
This review is from: Motel Shot (Audio CD)
Delaney and Bonnie were a husband and wife blue eyed soul team who waxed some pretty awesome rock n soul, for a short time during the late 60's and early 70's. Bonnie Bramlett was America's answer to england's Dusty Springfield. She packed a powerful and soulful voice that put her on par with all the greats of the day. Fortunately, their careers, were aided by some of the giants of classic rock, allowing them some much needed exposure. The album "Motel Shot", was one of their best efforts, and unfortunately is only available on import. Songs like "Never Ending Song Of Love"[top 20 hit], is an acoustic gem that anyone over 45 will remember. The gospel/tambourine driven sound of "Will The Circle Be Unbroken", and "Where The Soul Never Dies" are worth the price of the cd alone. Along for the ride here are, Duanne Allman, Dave Mason, Leon Russell,Rita Coolidge and Joe Cocker. Also playing are Jim Gordon, Carl Radle, and Bobby Whitlock who were better known as Clapton's Dominoes. As you can see, they kept good company, but all these players went on to form the core of Joe Cockers Maddogs and Englishmen, and the rest is history. Without a band of that caliber, Delaney and Bonnie slowly faded from the charts, and never repeated the success of "Motel Shot". This is a fantastic recording of a once great duo[even if it was short lived], who had the goods and delivered. A more affordable and generous retrospective is the Rhino cd, "The Best Of Delaney And Bonnie, which has 18 cuts and some great tunes with Eric Clapton and George Harrison.

This review is from: Motel Shot (Audio CD)
I REMEMBERED THIS ALBUM FROM 26 YEARS AGO AND ORDERED IT WHEN I SAW IT WAS AVAILABLE. TIME HAD NOT DIMINISHED IT'S GREATNESS. FORGET ALL THE CHEEZY MTV UNPLUGGED, THIS IS THE REAL THING. TO HEAR DUANE ALMANS ACOUSTIC SLIDE ON "SING MY WAY HOME WAS WORTH THE PRICE ALONE". THIS IS NOW MY FAVORITE CD IN MY COLLECTION. AS ESSENTIAL TO ANY MUSIC LOVERS COLLECTION AS LAYLA.

MORE THAN JUST GOODTIME MUSIC, July 12, 2004
By A Customer

LISTEN ONCE JUST FOR FUN. THEN LISTEN AGAIN VERY CAREFULLY.
THESE PEOPLE TAKE SOUTHERN GOSPEL, DELTA BLUES, AND COUNTRY,
THEY DISECT THEM ALL, AND LIKE DR. FRANKENSTEIN, THEY CONSTRUCT
THEIR OWN MONSTER (GOOD OLE ROCK & ROLL).
WHEN I LISTENED TO MY SHINEY NEW VINYL IN 1971, ALL I KNEW WAS
THIS MUSIC MADE ME FEEL REAL GOOD. LISTENING TO MY SHINEY NEW
DVD TODAY, I CAN HEAR WHAT AN ARTISTIC DOCUMENT THIS IS.
THIS SESSION SPAWNED MAD DOGS AND ENGLISHMEN, AND DEREK & THE
DOMINOES. IF YOU LISTEN CAREFULLY YOU CAN HEAR ERIC C. SINGING
ON COME ON IN MY KITCHEN.
BUT EVEN IF YOU DONT LISTEN VERY CAREFULLY, YOU WILL HAVE A REAL
GOOD TIME. ENJOY! 50+ AND STILL ROCKIN.
