Very Choosy Music Listener -- Finest Christmas Album Ever, December 24, 2006
This review is from: Mother & Child (Audio CD)
I found this album in the bargin bin at a drug store about 5 years ago, taking a chance I rarely do, because of the intriguing theme, and the list of singers. I choose my Christmas albums exceedingly carefully. I still can hardly believe that something this good exists, let alone lying in a bargain bin. Out Of Print -- that's insane! This shows how poor marketing can sink a great product. Anyone, anyone at all who hears "Christmas Lullabye" (Belinda Carlisle) or "Bless This Child" (Vesta) will cry. Every one of these is a gem. Except for the beginning and ending songs, these are all new to me, and all wonderful. What's more, they evoke the feeling that I have been told mothers have for their children at Christmas, which is a wonderful thing to experience. This captures it, and it so well helps you imagine how Mary felt with the infant Jesus. I'm shocked that some DJ doesn't get wise and play this on the air. This album would be instantly under so much demand that it would come back into print. Really, it has such heart. This is the very rare exception to the poor quality of Christmas compilation albums. Anybody reading this -- just find it, wherever you can -- it's unbeatable.

Wonderful & Unusual Christmas Collection!, December 16, 2010
This review is from: Mother & Child (Audio CD)
Just like one of the other reviewers, I found this as an audiocassette at a bargain price. What a treasure! Although I am not a mother, I have many happy memories of Christmas with my own mother, and I shared this tape with her while she was still alive. I would love to have a CD version, but it's just too expensive -- can't spring $50 or $109 on a CD! I love all the songs, and the artists do an incredible job, but my two very favorites are Amy Grant's beautiful "Breath of Heaven" (Mary's thoughts while pregnant with the Baby Jesus), and Martina McBride's amazing and moving version of "O Holy Night." She sings the first part of it accapella, and her voice is gorgeous. Then when the orchestra joins in with her, it is so beautiful you will cry. I also love "Ave Maria" by Beth Nielsen Chapman (although Karen Carpenter's version on the Carpenters' Christmas album remains my favorite). I agree with other reviewers that this album should have had better promotion. It is a gem! If you can get a copy, treat yourself. You won't be disappointed, especially if you share a close mother-child bond.

Unforgettable Christmas Album!!, December 15, 2011
I got this album out of a demo box that came to a store that I worked in back in 1995. I am a huge Christmas music fan and when I saw it I grabbed it up. I got it home and fell in love!! It was so beautiful and having just had my first child the year before I felt the entire album very deeply! I loved Vesta's Bless This Child and that is what brought me here searching for the album. I can't find it anywhere...not even that song. I was able to locate the Shanice song that she did with her mom but not the one I wanted so badly! I can't, for the life of me, figure out why it is so expensive even over 15 years after it's release. I can not afford the cost of it but if I win the lottery this will be my first buy!! If you have the money and you love great Christmas music...buy this album! You won't regret it!!
