5.0 out of 5 stars Very Choosy Music Listener -- Finest Christmas Album Ever, December 24, 2006
This review is from: Mother & Child (Audio CD)
I found this album in the bargin bin at a drug store about 5 years ago, taking a chance I rarely do, because of the intriguing theme, and the list of singers. I choose my Christmas albums exceedingly carefully. I still can hardly believe that something this good exists, let alone lying in a bargain bin. Out Of Print -- that's insane! This shows how poor marketing can sink a great product.

Anyone, anyone at all who hears "Christmas Lullabye" (Belinda Carlisle) or "Bless This Child" (Vesta) will cry. Every one of these is a gem. Except for the beginning and ending songs, these are all new to me, and all wonderful. What's more, they evoke the feeling that I have been told mothers have for their children at Christmas, which is a wonderful thing to experience. This captures it, and it so well helps you imagine how Mary felt with the infant Jesus.

I'm shocked that some DJ doesn't get wise and play this on the air. This album would be instantly under so much demand that it would come back into print. Really, it has such heart. This is the very rare exception to the poor quality of Christmas compilation albums. Anybody reading this -- just find it, wherever you can -- it's unbeatable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful & Unusual Christmas Collection!, December 16, 2010

This review is from: Mother & Child (Audio CD)
Just like one of the other reviewers, I found this as an audiocassette at a bargain price. What a treasure! Although I am not a mother, I have many happy memories of Christmas with my own mother, and I shared this tape with her while she was still alive. I would love to have a CD version, but it's just too expensive -- can't spring $50 or $109 on a CD!

I love all the songs, and the artists do an incredible job, but my two very favorites are Amy Grant's beautiful "Breath of Heaven" (Mary's thoughts while pregnant with the Baby Jesus), and Martina McBride's amazing and moving version of "O Holy Night." She sings the first part of it accapella, and her voice is gorgeous. Then when the orchestra joins in with her, it is so beautiful you will cry. I also love "Ave Maria" by Beth Nielsen Chapman (although Karen Carpenter's version on the Carpenters' Christmas album remains my favorite).

I agree with other reviewers that this album should have had better promotion. It is a gem! If you can get a copy, treat yourself. You won't be disappointed, especially if you share a close mother-child bond.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unforgettable Christmas Album!!, December 15, 2011
This review is from: Mother & Child (Audio Cassette)
I got this album out of a demo box that came to a store that I worked in back in 1995. I am a huge Christmas music fan and when I saw it I grabbed it up. I got it home and fell in love!! It was so beautiful and having just had my first child the year before I felt the entire album very deeply! I loved Vesta's Bless This Child and that is what brought me here searching for the album. I can't find it anywhere...not even that song. I was able to locate the Shanice song that she did with her mom but not the one I wanted so badly! I can't, for the life of me, figure out why it is so expensive even over 15 years after it's release. I can not afford the cost of it but if I win the lottery this will be my first buy!! If you have the money and you love great Christmas music...buy this album! You won't regret it!!

When I heard "Christmas Never Felt Like This" By Olivia Newton-John, I knew I had to have this album. It has such an awesome assortment of music! I'm so glad I still have it after all these years!

5.0 out of 5 stars Holiday must have!, March 18, 2007
This review is from: Mother & Child (Audio CD)
I woke up early on Christmas morning 1995,and all that was on was on the radio was Christmas music. While I tried to go back to sleep,an incredible song began to play, and my reaction was "Who in the world is this singing"? I called the radio station later to find out "the title and artist of a really nice song I heard about 4:30 this morning".Their reply:"At 4:26 we played "Christmas Lullaby" by Belinda Carlisle". I almost dropped the phone.I'm 50 years old,a Gulf War veteran, and nearly 12 years after I first heard it,it still stops me in my tracks. After searching for nearly 3 months,I was beginning to wonder if "Mother and Child" was some demo only radio stations had. After finding this site almost by accident,I wasn't leaving empty handed. I bought 4 copies. And what about the other 10 songs? Treasures.Just treasures.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mother & Child: A Christmas Celebration of Motherhood, December 18, 2005
This review is from: Mother & Child (Audio CD)
This one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard.

It is a must for any mother in the Christmas season to have. All the songs are very heart warming. I have had fellow workers and friends ask what is the name of the music I am playing.

As a Christimas CD this one has a great combination of classic and new tunes. Olivia Newton-John, Martina Mc Bride, Belinda Carlisle, Cece Winans really do a magnificent job...a great CD to relief the worlwide pain for the US tragedies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Amazed!, August 30, 2001

Music has always taken precedence in my life. If I see an album with a singer I like, I'll buy that album. In this case, it had several of my favorites. I will admit that my favorite type of music is the powerhouse vocals of ballads and songs of inspiration. This cd was chock-full of both. Martina's version of 'O Holy Night' blew me away. Belinda soothed me with 'Christmas Lullaby'. I had to join in with Cece Winans singing 'All is Well Tonight'. While I was sipping hot cocoa and talking to friends during Shanice's 'When You Believe'. During a Christmas party last year, this album started playing. I had the stereo set to scramble the tracks so it wouldn't be just one thing. The very first song played was O Holy Night. The entire house fell silent as they listened to the angelic vocals. Needless to say, if that one song on the cd can silence an entire house full of people, I truly wondered what would happen if they heard the entire cd.
