Book Description

Welcome to the "girl-talk" you thought you'd *never* hear in public!

Susie (52) and Aretha Bright (19) are a Mother/Daughter team of columnists from Jezebel.com, whose readers flooded them with explicit dilemmas about sexual pleasures and disasters, body issues, dating, relationships, and young marriage.

Chapters include:

-- “Dumped After 4 Years... and Still a Virgin!”

-- “Will I Ever Get Used To Anal Sex?”

-- “I Have A Tendency To Throw Up Every Time My Boyfriend Comes In My Mouth”

-- The Boy Who Didn’t Like Doggie

-- “How Can I Get My Girlfriend to Shave Her Pubic Hair?”

-- “I’m A Girl Who Comes Too Fast”

Is a Mother and Daughter sex advice column going to be an unending nightmare of T.M.I.? Can family members really talk about this stuff? Susie and Aretha had to open the envelope to find out. Each took turns with the same questions, and that’s when the eye-opening arguments began.

"Mother/Daughter Sex Advice" offers hilarious, thoughtful, and genuine insight from two generations who respect each other's opinion “most of the time.”

If you want cutting-edge sex advice that goes beyond pregnancy-and-disease-control— if you’re ready to hear family conversations about sex that are real and refreshing (if not always agreeable!)— if you’re primed to move beyond “Our Bodies Ourselves," this is the book for you.

Susie and Aretha's advice not only saves their readers from heartache and disease but they are so HILARIOUS with their back-and-forth replies that you feel like you are sitting right at the dinner table with them as they argue over what to tell you (Cue a 19-year-old's eye roll and a mom's astonished mouth agape) This is the easiest to read and most practical sex-advice book ever written. Hands down. You get two extremely knowledgeable opinions not one.

I know they say "Adults Only" in the title but let's get real! Teenagers need this ASAP. This book actually trumped my "what I would do if I win the Lotto" fantasy--No more Italian Villa--Now I would buy this book for every young woman--guys too--because I seriously loved it that much and know it's that helpful and that needed. These questions are what girls REALLY want to know--it's so easy to read and no B.S.

5.0 out of 5 stars The sex talk I wish I'd had with my mom. May 12, 2012
By Laura
Format:Kindle Edition
I think my parents would have died of embarrassment if it had become public knowledge that, as a nine year old, I didn't know where babies came from. When other parents were rumored to be having "the talk" with their third graders, my parents had to muster an insane amount of courage to broach the subject with me and my little brother. They were clearly nervous and miserable as they dutifully read us some library books about fallopian tubes and cell division. I listened, wide-eyed and confused. In the end, I didn't really understand that couples might go through this complicated intercourse procedure for any other reason than to have a baby.

SEX ADVICE by Susie & Aretha Bright is such a breath of fresh air. Reading this book is like getting to eavesdrop on the coolest mother/daughter sex talks that you never had with your own mom. The topics are much wider ranging than fallopian tubes and cell division. In addition to answering questions on everything under the sun, they sidetrack into funny personal anecdotes like the time little Aretha absconded with a pretty, swirly dildo to use as an evil character in a complex Barbie plot. The book is at its best when Susie and Aretha aren't in total agreement. The witty banter and multiple perspectives are very enjoyable.

The Kindle book has the added advantage of having hyperlinks to articles, diagrams, book recommendations, and more. I recommend this book for all adults and also for teenagers. Without ever being preachy, the overriding messages in this book are about the importance of communication and being true to yourself. What parent wouldn't want that for their children? Unlike those awkward sex ed movies that made stilted statements like, "Sex is natural," SEX ADVICE actually feels natural.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have May 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This book is a Must. Susie and Aretha make Sex Talk so conversational and honest. This book breaks down old stigmas and makes talking about sex okay. If your a girl friend, boyfriend, this is a must buy for your partners. Relationships are about balance and about trust, and being able to talk about things. Sometimes I think us as people we forget that. This book empowers both sexes, girls you don't have to be complacent if your partner isn't performing, guys can be empowered to stimulate your partner, and vice versa. Its refreshing to have sex talked about in a casual way with funny banter between the two parties. This is a good book to bust out to have a giggle. This is a good book to people of all ages and all experience levels. They have a open view about life and don't hold back. Hang on to your seat belts ladies and gentlemen were in for a little bit of a bumpy ride. once you get back from your turbulence and trust in to your two pilots taking you on this exciting voyage you'll see that, Sex is suppose to be FUN. This book definitely enforces that notion. 5 stars :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Smashing the last taboo? May 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I love this book - not only its content but its concept: that a parent and child can talk openly about sex. And not sex talk as a branch of mental hygiene, but sex as (occasionally disruptive) fun. Reading Susie on motherhood was a major influence on convincing me that I really could have a child, and that parenthood could be a delight and not a ceaseless burden. And now reading Susie & Aretha's conversations are an inspiration of a different kind - full of wisdom and good advice for sure, but also a living demonstration that parents and kids can be wonderful influences on each other. It's too bad there's not more of this in the world, but maybe if a million people downloaded and read this lovely book, there would be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enlightening, Liberating and Funny May 15, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
"Sex-positive" are the words often used to describe the work of Susie Bright. Not only is sex necessary for the continuation of human life on Earth; it is also necessary for our physical and psychological well-being. This is the continuum that Ms. Bright has functioned in throughout her career as an author and educator about all topics sexual.

So it is with this concise volume, compiled from a sex-advice column that she collaborated on with her daughter Aretha. It contains much wisdom and compassion for the condition of human beings and is unfailingly positive in its support for the people who wrote in for their advice.

The unique thing about this book is the interplay of the mother and daughter, their different takes on problems presented and the unifying feeling of really caring about each other, their chosen task and their efforts to be of help to the original questioner and to we readers.

Not only that, but the book abounds in humor, in the interplay of these two strong women who are so close and yet distinct individuals with greatly different life experiences. Sometimes they surprise each other and the "safe word" of TMI (Too Much Information) is always available if it seems that boundaries might be crossed, although even then, the humor and good-nature of their interactions are joyful to read.

I really appreciated that the Kindle version provides links that can be followed to supporting diagrams and articles, as well as the complete bibliography of materials presented in the Afterward, all with links. This book really exploits the potential of the medium of electronic books and it shines with clarity and liberating wisdom.
