For The Love Of Money,
By The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com and BlackBookReviews.net) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mother Eternal Ann Everlastin's Is Dead (Hardcover)
MOTHER ETERNAL ANN EVERLASTING'S DEAD is a light hearted parody of a centuries-old institution; the African-American Church. It proves to be a satiric yet uncannily believable portrayal of the various faces of church folks and their oft times melodramatic way of life. Overflowing with bizarre and often scathing humor Pat G'Orge-Walker does a tremendous job in poking fun at the greed, hypocrisy and pretentiousness that goes on in the name of religion.
This incredibly humorous story takes on a life of its own when megalomaniacal Mother Eternal Ann, the congregations chief benefactor, drops dead slumped over the church's cash register, apparently from a heart attack. The rumor mill immediately starts churning and soon word gets out that she had actually died of an overindulgence of York Peppermint Patties, which coincidentally were linked to the demise of her two husbands. When it becomes known that Mother Eternal Ann's last wishes was for her friend Sister Betty to distribute million dollar checks to three "mega-pastors" at a conference in Baltimore, the resident pastor, Reverend Knott Enuff Money is chagrined. He forms his own Baltimore bound crew, all the time scheming to abscond with the checks. The boisterous hilarity reaches fever pitch, with the farcical antics of the entourage, led by Sister Betty, with Reverend Knott Enuff Money and his scheming cortege in tow. MOTHER ETERNAL ANN EVERLASTIN'S DEAD has a depth that transcends simple satire. The characters are well developed, though outrageous, which lends to the deeply entertaining quality of the book. Pat G'Orge-Walker's apparent ability to keep readers captivated with the ludicrous antics of her characters makes for a rip-roaringly comical read. She has scored a definite coup with this one. Excellent!!!!!!,

This review is from: Mother Eternal Ann Everlastin's Is Dead (Hardcover)
I'm blown away by this story. Not only does it take place in my own home town of Pelzer, SC (and we do have some of these people here) but it is written with a wonderful message.
Mother Eternal is a member of the No Hope Now-Mercy Nevah church. She dies suddenly and being a very wealthy woman she left a ton of money. She also left instructions for her best friend, Sister Betty, to deliver three one-million dollar checks to three big-time preachers in Baltimore, MD. When Sister Betty attempts to carry out those instructions with the aid of Ma Cile the crazy road trip and all the other hilarity begins; particularly since Rev. Knott Enuff Money has decided he wants in on all that cash. The author uses the death of one member to impact on the lives of many. What concerned me with this story is that I hope that it is not the end of the Sister Betty stories. Since several people, including some that were a complete surprise, find redemption what craziness is left? I hope it is not the end. There is a great lesson here regarding judgement of others, homosexuality in the church, thirsting after the wrong message, etc. She cleverly manages to get you to screaming while serving you Jesus. Also the history behind Sister Betty and some of the others was very moving. I particularly loved the backstory of how the Reverend Knott Enuff Money became the man he was. We need to be careful about how we let others define and mold us. That should be left up to God. Great Job by this author.

Church Folks at Their Best,
By T. Rhythm Knight (Coral Springs, FL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mother Eternal Ann Everlastin's Is Dead (Paperback)
When Mother Eternal Ann Everlastin dies, the fried chicken hits the fan in Pat G'Orge-Walker's, Mother Eternal Ann Everlastin's Dead. After being a faithful member of Ain't Nobody Right But Us--All Others Goin' to Hell Church, pastored by the Rev. Knott Enough Money, Mother Everlastin moves her membership. Needless to say, the Rev. Bling Mo' Bling, of The No Hope Now--Mercy Neva Church, is all to happy to receive the wealthy-widowed-several-times-multimillionaire into his fold. When Mother suddenly dies with her hands clutched to the cash register during service, the antics begin as everyone competes for Mother's millions. Unknown to everyone, the overbearing Mother is still running things from the grave as she teaches the members of both churches a lesson on serving God with a sincere heart.
If you have ever gone to an African-American church you will recognize some of the antics in Mother Eternal Ann Everlastin's Dead. Although I am not a particular fan of this particular genre, I found this book to be laugh-out-loud funny at times. Walker managed to bring over-the-top characters to life while delivering a powerful message in the process. If you are a Christian fiction fan and you like a good laugh, do, by all means, get a copy of Pat G'Orge-Walker's, Mother Eternal Ann Everlastin's Dead. T. RHYTHM KNIGHT APOOO BookClub

This book was absolutely HILARIOUS!!! I grew up in the church and I could see so many people that I know in the characters. The author has a way of making you laugh until you cry, but giving you a very solid and profound message at the same time. Although this book is humorous, the book club questions at the end led to a wonderful discussion. This book was definately a wonderful read and I cannot wait to read more.

Running thangs from the grave,

This review is from: Mother Eternal Ann Everlastin's Is Dead (Hardcover)
Mother Eternal Ann Everlasting's Dead is the third installment of the Sister Betty series by Christian comedienne author, Pat G'orge Walker. Written in the parody style of today's gospel plays, Mother Eternal Ann Everlasting's Dead chastising portrayal of the "Black Church" is shamefully real. On her 79th birthday the church's most prosperous member, Mother Eternal Ann, passes away. Amidst the rumors that the cause of death was the result of the sensation of a York Peppermint Patty, chaos is on the horizon for the members of the No Hope Now -Mercy Nevah church. Mother Eternal Ann's untimely passing causes the saints along with everyone else in town to wonder who is going to inherit all of Mother Ann's money. Mother Ann in her final will and testament has asked that her oldest and most beloved friend, Sister Betty, embark upon a mission to deliver million dollar checks to the pastors of three mega churches at a convention in Baltimore. Unbeknownst to all these pastors will have to call upon every favor that the lord owes them in order to fulfill Mother Eternal Ann's last wishes. When Reverend Knot Enuff Money, who was Mother Eternal Ann's pastor gets wind to Sister Betty's mission he finds himself Baltimore bound. Realizing the magnitude of the fete he enlists the help of Bishop Was Nevercalled and Sister Ima B. Hellraiser. Mother Eternal Ann Everlasting's Dead is realism at it's best. Pat G'orge Walker exposes the good the bad and the ugly of the inner workings of the church. With characters who are true to life she teaches us two valuable lessons. The first being that God can truly change anyone's heart and secondly that it's not good to eat candy in church. Readincolor Reviewers Angie Pickett-Henderson, Founder

what a way to go on her 71st birthday--Mother Eternal Ann Everlastin caught the sensation of eating a York peppermint pattie and passed away. If you thought that was crazy, check out Rev Bling Moe Bling and his kickstand leg brace and his wife Beaulah Bling who has a criminal record---the beautician Shaqueeda and her children Linus, Corolla and Camry--join Ma Cile as she eats a pigfoot fajita with some Hell Naw Hot Sauce!! This book is a scream!!!! I didn't think that the Sister Betty book could be topped, but I was so wrong!! Read carefully about the trip to Baltimore because I wouldn't want you to miss the convention!!!!!

Say AMEN!!!!,
By K. Warren "So Blessed" (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mother Eternal Ann Everlastin's Is Dead (Hardcover)
In this latest offering from the author/Christian comedienne is beyond words of description. It is just great!A page turner from the onset. Mother Eternal Ann Everlastin' was the oldest and wealthiest member of the No Hope Now -- Mercy Nevah church. When she passes in a very hilarious and unorthoedox manner, she leaves a strange will in which she askes Sister Betty to take three, one million dollar checks to three mega church pastors in the Maryland area. And, she also left a check for $50,000 to Rev. Knott Enuff Money but she never signed it. It's when Sister Betty, accompanied by her side-kick Ma Cile, a drunken nephew and a snotty limo driver takes off to deliver the checks and the Rev. Money finds out about it that the novel takes on a hilarity that is off the chain. Of course, no road trip would be complete with Sister Hellraiser, Bro. Tis Mythang and the Bishop Was Nevercalled in the chase. It's when they all arrive in the presence of the Reverends John Cherry, Walter Thomas and Frank Reid that the story kicks it up to the sky. Did Mother Eternal use her vast wealth to place Rev. Knott Enuff Money in the presence of Mega pastors who truly know God on purpose? Will Brother Tis Mythang finally face the accusations of homosexuality? These are just a sample of the situations. Finally, I love how the author gives deep insight into the background of these people we love to hate. And, who would've thought that Sister Betty had a pass that was so moving. Never judge is what I came away with..and, of course, a need to read the next novel from this amazing author.

Mother Eternal Ann Everlastin's Dead,

I have never, ever laughed so much and so hard at any book in my entire life! I laughed so hard that I cried. My co-workers would come over to my cubicle to see if I was alright since I was usually the only person in my row after 5pm and I would find myself laughing out loud even though I tried hard not to. This was a wonderful, wonderful book and I was sorry to finally finish it. I have read all but one of this author's books (I am having trouble finding the last one as it is out of print now). Of the 3 that I have read, this was the funniest with "Cruisin On Desperation" being next. Definitely an enjoyable read!
