This review is from: Mother To Be (Family Blessings) (Silhouette Special Edition) (Paperback)
Back Cover description: Was Coyote, earth's mischief maker, meddling in matters of the heart? Knee-deep in her forties, attorney Lillian Singer long ago left her Navajo ways behind. And tribal lawman Johnny Becenti despised her for it. So why had the People selected her to cajole Johnny out of this sudden self-exile? All she could do was bother him senseless! But aggravation soon sparked passion. And the lifelong warriors made love. But could they make peace? For they'd already made a baby...

This book has characters from a previous book, ONE OF OUR OWN. It was OK just not riveting. I liked the character of Johnny Becenti but wasn't crazy about Lillian, she got annoying. Her character was known for her plain speaking, but when it was important for her to say something she didn't. I liked this book, and I didn't, confusing I know, but the story could have been much better.

Generally, Cheryl Reavis' stories bask in romance and usually she writes tales that warm a reader's heart. In MOTHER TO BE, her primary story line is getting two longtime adversaries together -- a good concept -- so what happened?

Release Date- May 1997
From the Back Cover-
Was coyote, earth's mischief maker, meddling in matters of the heart?

Knee-deep in her forties, attorney Lillian Singer long ago left her Navajo ways behind. And tribal lawman Johnny Becenti despised her for it. So why had their People selected her to cajole Johnny out of his sudden self-exile? All she could do was bother him senseless! But aggravation soon sparked passion. And the lifelong warriors made love. But could they make peace? For they'd already made a baby.

My Review-
MOTHER TO BE started good and then Cheryl Reavis lost me. Why?
1): It was an effort to sort through all the characters from Reavis' previous books. Was Meggie with Jack or Lucas (no . . . Sloane goes with Lucas). Ok, I think I got that one! So, who was the step-niece again? (Honestly, I'm trying). But quite frankly . . . I don't care! NO, I don't! I picked up MOTHER TO BE to read about Lillian and Johnny.
2): And then the ending: a complete onslaught of "wrap-up" information. What's wrong with a simple . . . "they got married and lived happily-ever-after" . . ?????

My two cents regarding any authors' book series: a discreet update is usually quite sufficient or maybe a brief glimpse of things to come! Anything else? Well . . . sometimes too much is simply TOO much.
