Critically acclaimed artist Scott Cook brings his spirited, classic style to the Mother Goose menagerie!  From Little Miss Muffet to Old Mother Hubbard and a whole range of unforgettable characters in between, this lavish yet affordably priced anthology harks back to the best-loved nursery rhyme collections of the past while possessing a unique flavor.  Expressive portraits, richly rendered vignettes, and exuberant, parade-like scenes that creatively group verses together--all invite readers to curl up in a cozy chair and enter the timeless and utterly satisfying world of Cook, whose oil paintings Booklist has described as "suffused with a golden glow...soft as a kiss, yet filled with energy."  Over 60 familiar and lesser-known rhymes are included in this visual feast.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 2?Yet another collection of Mother Goose rhymes?this one, however, stands out for its animated artwork. The verses are thoughtfully arranged in topical groupings; less well-known selections are interspersed with familiar favorites. The drawings are so playful and expressive that rogues, simpletons, and other well-loved characters fairly leap off the pages. Rendered in oils in muted shades of predominantly lavender and brown, each small vignette and full-page painting overflows with humorous details of village and countryside. A wide range of emotions is portrayed, and the characters are vibrantly brought to life. A fresh offering.?Sally R. Dow, Ossining Public Library, NY

5.0 out of 5 stars AN UNEXPECTED PLEASURE, April 21, 2004
This review is from: Mother Goose (Hardcover)
Traditional nursery rhymes, which we may think have been presented in every way possible, are an unexpected pleasure when selected and illustrated by Scott Cook.

Little Miss Muffet, Old Mother Hubbard, and an exuberant bevy of animals are both lovable and laughable in Cook's fanciful impressionistic paintings.
