Book Description

April 2000 Prion Humour Classics
This is a caustic comicbook tale of Hollywood in its 1920s heyday. Anita Loos sets up a sardonic tour of the artifice and excess that is Hollywood: dreadful architecture, tasteless fashions, bizarre religious sects, mass murder, sex, divorce, industry neopotism and vacuous inhabitants.

This review is from: No Mother to Guide Her (Prion Humour Classics) (Hardcover)
More excellent writing from Anita Loos. The intro by Kathy Leete, (whoever that is), is a waste of time.

This is very much a period piece in the model of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Loos bring to life a world long since gone, (Hollywood in the 20s and 30s). The illustrations are very period. Worth reading if you are into that sort of thing.

To me an author is successful if she can create a world and bring you into it. Anita Loos is such an author.

My only criticism is that I wish this book were longer.
