Book Description

September 1, 2006 Earthworks Series
In "Mother/Land", Savageau weaves traditional, personal and family stories, with stories of colonization and resistance, revealing a landscape of trees, ponds, rivers and mountains rich in meaning for Abenaki people. Mother/Land is beaded with gems from her mother's jewel box-poems that tell stories of her mother's life and death, and the complexities of love and survival.

5.0 out of 5 stars Savageau is brilliantly down to earth, February 2, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mother/Land (Earthworks Series) (Paperback)
The Abenaki people are alive and writing. Cheryl Savageau's latest (check out her other titles) is proof positive that there is much to be learned from our home planet. Her poems weave in and out like a braid, taking the reader from human landscape to earth landscape and back again. Her simple language is nothing at all like simple language. Artfully, Savageau makes meaning out of simple observations, makes deep meaning out of relationships. I am reminded of all that is sacred about this earth and about our place in it when I read and read and read again these wonderful poems. I give her the best compliment a poet can give: I wish I had written these poems!
