Book Description

9 and up
The best-selling author of ANIMORPHS and EVERWORLD presents a fresh, exciting, and gritty new science-fiction series that combines a little 2001, a little Armageddon, and a whole lot of action!

Job has found the Remnants' unbelievable virtual reality in the sky---could it be the Earth? With the defeat of the Babyr, Billy has secured his role as master-programmer and absorbed Mother in the process. If Jobs has really found the Earth, can Billy be convinced to alter the ship's course? Meanwhile, Yago puts his plan in motion to rule the Meanies as their god--what does this mean for the future safety of the Remnants? How will Yago's ambitions clash with Jobs' search for a new home for the Remnants? Courses will change for the ship, for the Remnants, and the future of humankind.

More About the Author

Katherine Applegate's many books include the Roscoe Riley Rules chapter book series, the picture book The Buffalo Storm, and the award-winning novel Home of the Brave. With her husband, Michael Grant, she wrote the hugely popular series Animorphs, which has sold more than 35 million copies worldwide.

Katherine was inspired to write The One and Only Ivan after reading about the true story of a captive gorilla known as Ivan, the Shopping Mall Gorilla. The real Ivan lived alone in a tiny cage for twenty-seven years at a shopping mall before being moved to Zoo Atlanta after a public outcry. He is now a beloved celebrity at the zoo, which houses the nation's largest collection of western lowland gorillas. Ivan is well known for his paintings, which he "signs" with a thumb-print.

Katherine lives in California with her husband and two children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Remnants fan, August 30, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Mother, May I? (Remnants #8) (Paperback)
Fantastic book, a must buy for all remnants fans out there.
I mean, come on! Its only the 8th book and already were gripped to the series. I dont know about you but i am checking amazon everyday to see when the next book is being published. Anyway this is supposed to be review. So thats what im going to do, review the book.In the last book the Blue meanies and the squids and the riders were at all out war until Billy stopped them by gaining control over Mother. Now the remnantshave their own small part of the ship to call their "home," although its more like a home away from home. Anyway, Jobs has found a planet that looks like the remains of the old Earth. Now jobs must convince the others to get billy to steer the ship towards it. Billy has only one favour to ask, that Jobs go to a part of the ship that Billy can't see through Mother. The remnants also gain a new member to thier diminished numbers. This new member may be hiding something. Who nows. You'll just have to read the book to find out more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Far from K.A.'s best work, October 31, 2002
This review is from: Mother, May I? (Remnants #8) (Paperback)
500 years after they left Earth, the remaining Remnants(numbers still dwindling), have finally seemed to settle down after the "Big Compromise". However, everyone knows it is no "real" life, for everything is computer-generated by Billy. So, when Jobs finds a mysterious object that looks very much like the remnants of what "Earth" used to be, will the Remnants be able to convince Billy to break the Big Compromise and turn the ship around? And what about all the other troubles brewing that everyone still doesn't know about? Such as Yago, and his secret plottings with the Blue Meanies? What about Amelia, a new Remnant they discover, whose mutation is beyond weird...and the questions she raises about what Billy truly is? What about the other missing remnants that Amelia hints at?

To me Remnants has been a disappointment(except book #2) to me. We keep hearing the same old stories. I'm tired of the battles between the Remnants, Blue Meanies, Rider, etc...How many useless pages do we waste on that? The bickering between 2Face and Yago has just gotten old. Even Jobs and Mo'Steel seemed to have lost their magic. I just hope K.A. gets the series back on track soon, or it'll be another series of disappointing reviews.
