Nefertiti's paraffin facial; Marie Antoinette's herb bath; cabbage wraps for achy feet; and "psychocosmetics"--auto-suggestive exercises to smooth wrinkles--are all included in this entertaining compendium of natural beauty aids. Cameron includes interesting bits of historical lore with a wide assortment of kitchen recipes for every imaginable beauty problem. The efficacy of her preparations must be taken on faith, and there's no mention of the fact that natural ingredients often produce allergic reactions. Those seriously interested in making their own cosmetics would do better with Deborah Chase's New Medically Based No-Nonsense Beau ty Book ( LJ 5/15/89), but this is still an interesting book, and no doubt will be popular with some readers. Public libraries may wish to consider.
