I was completely sucked into this book. The characters are fantastic and I particularly loved the relationship between Mariana and Azrael. It's not the standard meet someone and fall in love with them like magic kind of relationship, and for that it felt more real.

The side characters were great too, unique and fun.

I believe this is J.C. Nathans' first book, and I can't wait to read her next one. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Honestly this was a challenge. I paced myself as I read this and was rewarded with a solid story. There's a quest scenario which can be blah in so many stories but the characters are varied and well-written which lifts this story nicely. Strong potential in this series.

Mother Outlaw is a complex read. Sometimes there is confusion about what is happening, and the direction of the novel is uncertain. The writing is always dramatic. Often with more words than I would have used - but that is only a matter of my opinion. The book is well written, but as I said, complex. The ending is also a little unsettling, without a clear end for some of the characters. I considered giving a 4 star rating, but decided to give it 5 stars, because it was so interesting to read. It's not easy to read, but interesting.

Sequence jumps, like fifty days disappearing mid-paragraph, and mid-sentence switches from one character to the next without transition, make this book unreadable. I didn't get very far at all in the book because of this, so I won't comment on content.
