5.0 out of 5 stars NOT unthinkable, and NOT promotional, either!
Unfortunately, this book wouldn't exist if breaking the taboo was truly unthinkable. Many people have thought of it and have, as a result, severely damaged and sometimes even contributed to the deaths of their sons. ...

2.0 out of 5 stars Just an overview- no depth
Don't be misled by the previous reviewer, "NOT unthinkable", who gave this book five stars! I ordered it because of that recommendation (and because so few of the books on this topic have any review at all) and it turned out to be only a short pamphlet- 33 pages plus references. It is merely an overview of the existing literature in the field. It has long lists of...

This review is from: Mother-Son Incest: The Unthinkable Broken Taboo, An Overview of Findings (Paperback)
Unfortunately, this book wouldn't exist if breaking the taboo was truly unthinkable. Many people have thought of it and have, as a result, severely damaged and sometimes even contributed to the deaths of their sons. ...

This book can be difficult to read, especially if you're one of the sons, or a person trying to have a healthy life now with one of them. Read this book when you have time to reflect on it, and in a safe quiet environment in which you have ready access to supportive people. This title is insightful for anyone interested in the subject, but for partners of these victimized boys-now-men, you might also consider the book: "When the Other Woman is His Mother." Both are sound investments for professionals, partners and survivors.

2.0 out of 5 stars Just an overview- no depth, April 29, 2007
This review is from: Mother-Son Incest: The Unthinkable Broken Taboo, An Overview of Findings (Paperback)
It has long lists of articles and books, and a chronological list of Mother-Son incest Reports in the literature, with brief summaries and no recommendations or ratings of the books or articles. Its just a well referenced, brief essay that makes the point that this kind of thing really does happen, its not that rare, and that society is in denial about women abusing and especially abusing their own children. As such, it is important and valuable, and it lists the existing literature very thoroughly- but this pamphlet was not what I was looking for. I didn't need to be convinced that mother-son incest happens, or that people deny it and minimize it in lots of ways, I needed to understand it in more depth, and I'm now back at square one with trying to find the right book to read.

The one very useful thing I learned from this essay is that boys and sons who are sexually abused do not generaly consider that they were victimized or abused if the abuse was not coerced or violent. Societal norms inhbit boys from feeling victimzed or from disclosing the abuse or their feelings. Nevertheless, psychological damage is still done even if the abused does not percieve it that way. But if you're hoping for a discussion of that any deeper than these three sentences, this is not where you're going to find it - that is all there is.

Do check out the amazing other offerings from this publisher, though: the Safer Society in Vermont. They publish books on every aspect of sexual abuse, understanding, assesing, treatment, prevention, case management, for lay persons (adults and children), for professionals or for law enforcement persons.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mother and son can have the best sex, September 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mother-Son Incest: The Unthinkable Broken Taboo, An Overview of Findings (Paperback)
After reading the book i must say that sometimes this happens and very often. A mother and son having sex as adults will hold nothing back and in some societies and in some peoples opinion it is alright to do. Often there is a special love and attraction that is not controlable if both parties are interested. The sex does not get any better and the orgasms are explosive. If they go as far as kissing while mother and son are making love in the nude it will be a very bonding experiance. They just have to do it.
