A happy couple in Northern Ireland struggles with the appearance of the woman's secret child in this novel by one of Ireland's most respected writers. ""Though her characters never indulge in those long, strangely articulate outbursts meant to telegraph an author's meaning, her marriage tale displays an understated fervor that deserves attention."" -Kirkus Reviews ""Bardwell portrays a marriage under the inevitable strain of old secrets coming to light."" -Irish Echo
