This review is from: Mother: Famous Writers Celebrate Motherhood with a Treasury of Short Stories, Essays, and Poems (Paperback)
It is a good collection of some well written pieces. The one that interested me the most is the short piece by Amy Tan. After reading some of her novels I almost felt sorry for her mother, for it was often at her expense that the funniest part of her novels come from. I am glad to see in this short piece, Amy Tan finally speaks for her mother and made her point very clear that when someone couldn't speak English well it doesn't mean this person is stupid or retarded. In fact, her mother's ability to think very smartly while using a language that is not her native one or the ability to use her native language to think but force herself into a communication with the English language world is truly amazing.
